iPad Dash

Has anybody looked into replacing the in dash stereo with a iPad?
I see some people are doing it with other vehicles:
Fast Work: In-Car, Dash-Mounted iPad | Gadget Lab | Wired.com
and
Scosche iKit replaces car stereo with iPad | The Car Tech blog - CNET Reviews

I want to do it but dont know where to begin. I would also like to add a 3g/wireless modem to the car. Not sure where a good place to start would be for that either.

Any ideas? Anybody else think this would be cool?

the dash isn't big enough to fit that monstrous thing.
you would probably have to have it hovering. then it will
look like dog sh!t. plus thieves will love you
also don't forget those top air vents. they wont be functional
anymore and i rely on those suckers.

That's pretty slick. I would consider doing this even if you do lose out on some basic functionality like access to your hvac controls.

iPhone iPad

I think I might be willing to sacrafice some fan control. If you have tinted windows you dont have to worrie about the glare.
Anybody know of a double din iphone dash kit? Something you could plug your iphone directly into the double din. Some features I would like are:

Direct Connection to speakers
Handsfree over speakers calling
A built in 3G antenna would be nice
Easy / quick phone rotation

I think having an iPad mount would be really cool if there's room. I'm in for pics.

Consider where the top of your windshield ends . . . and where your dash is located in relation to that. Watching the movies on the soundmancaraudio site, you can see reflections in every shot.

Scoshe iPad Kit

Looks like Scoshe is developing one. Hope it is available soon. Here is a video of it:

There is also rumors that Apple will be releasing a 7" iPad... That might change things.
