Cargo Cover Question

This is probably a silly question: In about 2 weeks i am getting a 2010 Fit (Base model, manual transmission, Tidewater Blue). I am going to install a cargo cover on it. (I guess I'm actually asking 3 questions) With the cover installed, can I still lay the back seat(s) down? Can I install the cover myself? What is the best oem vendor to buy from?

Thanks much

1. Can I still lay the back seats down?
Yes
If you install it in the recommended manner, you just have to unsnap the felt piece from the back of the rear seats and then lay them down.

2. Can I install the cover myself?
Yes
There is even a DIY Video on collegehillshonda.com
I installed it myself, but did not install the snaps on the back seats. I have Clazzio leather seats and I didn't want to poke holes through those, so I installed without the snaps. I just took that felt flap off completely.
Cover still works and fits just fine.
Also easy to remove.

3. What is the best oem vendor to buy from?
Check out collegehillshonda.com

I actually did this in a Ford Escort that I drove in college. I used plywood, actually...it was a little heavier but then I could put things on top of it.

It was a passable cheap solution for an older car for which I did not think I'd be able to easily find a "production" cover. But to be honest, if you have the money shell out for the real deal. It has hinges that help hold it in place, rubber fittings that keep it from making too much noise, is lightweight and durable, and has the strings and clips so that it lifts when you open the gate. You could certainly fashion all this onto a DIY one, but now then you're spending a lot more time/effort.

As far as sourcing, YMMV but I called my local dealer parts dept to ask if they would price match college hills or bernardi. They would not, but they said they will give the "Internet special" price listed online and allow you to pick up at the store and charge a $5 handling fee (the Internet specials specify that in-store pickup is not allowed). I found that while the actual online prices were a little bit more expensive at my dealer, spending $5 on "shipping" as opposed to $15 or more made it a little cheaper overall...plus if the part is in stock I can pick it up after work...no waiting.
