what type of oil
#21
I have only had that first oil change so far, but I have noticed it didn't move from 100% as quickly and it seems so far to be lasting longer. I don't travel far for work, and mostly on Highway, but I do have a nice Highway/local mix of miles. I will post at my second oil change and the mileage difference.

Here's an interesting article about the topic of xw20 vs xw30 and higher.

Interesting article, but no facts to back it up. Anyone can put an article on the internet.
5W-20 oil have been in use for 8+ years. There doesn't seems to any study (that I can find)about its negative effects on engines compared to thicker oil.
Some people will have a heart attack when Honda start using 0W-10.

Unless your uncle is an automotive engineer who designs and tests hundreds of these engines a year, similar to those engineers at Honda, I wouldn't place too much credence into his knowledge of this tight tolerance engine. And, I'm not saying that 10w30 is wrong. I'm saying that I hope you read other data before making that decision.

i think either 5w-30/20 or 10w-20/30 is ok with these engines. i will try the 5-30 next oil change.
but heres the real question then: if i am using 10w-30 and when i use 5w-20/30 in next oil change, will the engine be harm in any way? will be like WTF?

You aren't going to hurt it and it may be a better choice for winter driving where you live. The climate and driving conditions there would have me using 10w30 or installing an oil cooler to use 5w20.

been using 5w20 and no issues here. sometimes i only have 3 bottles of 5w20 and have to mix a bottle of 5w30 (my other cars use 5w30) but it's no issue.
just put some soap in there to make it thinner.

Have used 5w20 in my TL since it was new. Just now @ 64k I put 5w30 M1 full syn in it. I have M1 filter and full syn 5w20 sitting in the Fit waiting for the indicator to hit 15% so I can change the oil/filter and tire rotation. It's at 7600 miles currently original oil and filter...
I usually use whatever major brand full syn oil/filter is on sale at Autozone for my oil changes.

Damn what a headache!! Lol well i have done 2 oil changes in my car already and one was cause I was at 15 and the other was cause they had a promotion and my stealership for free oil changes so I did it!! I'm not sure what they use but I'm getting to the point where imma start doing it myself but I am not sure what to use and if I should keep going by the maintenance minded ? But ready up o. Everyones opinion is somehwhat confusing lol ! Plus I know conventional is being used in the dealerships right? Is it recommendable to switch to synthetic? Even thou it's a dd and all? Idk! I need some knowlegde on this !

Reallly frightened
It seems that so many people are afraid to use the 5w20 in their Fits... like something is going to happen to them. Do you really believe that a company that has succeeded so long and is the number one car company in the world in least repairs, longest life and customer loyalty, would not already run this engine on 5w20 for millions of miles with dozens of engines? Do you think they would risk their reputation, billions of dollars in warranty claims and billions of dollars in "good will" by using a low weight oil that was not fully tested and would damage their engine?

Nobody is claiming 5w-20 would cause failure within the expected service life of the motor, but that some of the wear during that time is preventable with a slightly better oil. I think everybody agrees that Honda is only using 5w-20 due to CAFE regulations and not engine longevity, or they would spec 5w-20 globally (they do not afaik).

I'm coming up for my first change and I just don't know what to do either. Every time I read my manual I completely decide on Honda oil. Then I read all the opinions and I waiver again! I'd like to go synth oil, but I've never used it in any car. I suppose I'll go with what the manual states.
Are there any myths that can be dispelled about synthetic oil?
One big one I was told some years ago was not to switch to it in my older car because it would probably leak. Once you start, must you stick with it for the life of the car?

There is no issue switching back and forth, but it's an issue on older motors with crud, or lots of wear and present issues. For a fit, you can switch back and forth as you wish.

Just got an oil change today. I bought my own oil but I let the people at Honda do my oil change. I brought in Royal Purple and the mechanic that did my oil change said I use high quality oil He said if I keep using good oil, the Fit's engine could last 300k miles
Royal Purple 5w-20
