Fit meets guard cable

That's US 64 on the Franklin/Nash county line. The state trooper and tow operator both independently said that the highway there isn't designed with the usual outward slope, so water pools very easily. They both said that there are accidents there almost every time it rains. Bummer!
I'm very curious to see if they total it. I think the fair market value should still be in the neighborhood of 14-15k, so that's definitely a lot of parts and labor before it could be called a total loss.

I'm the last one to shout LAWSUIT, but it could be worth looking into. I'd find out who owns that stretch of road and hold them accountable. It wasn't your fault and you have two people, one being highway patrol, to back that up. You shouldn't be shit out of luck and a car because the grade of the road and the ponding goes ignored. All those accidents there and what will it take, a death? It could have been you! I take a lot but if it were me in this instance, you better believe I'd be investigating my options.

ok question:
if your muffler/exhaust were ever hit from the back, does the vibration and damage resonate to the engine and in turn damaging it? i ask because the exhaust is connected to hte engine bay.

Thanks for all of the sympathy. The adjuster has officially delayed her estimate until Monday morning. I've been so anxious to find out, and I can't believe I have to wait all weekend.
The only new information I have is that they think it was leaking oil, and thus maybe not gas, because the tow truck driver reported seeing oil on his truck bed.
One positive thing to come of this is that my love of the Fit is renewed. If this one is totaled, I will definitely buy another Fit right away with the same specs.

Some NC highways can be treacherous. We once spun a Mazda for a full 360 across 3 lanes of traffic on I-85, and ended up on the right shoulder, facing in the right direction. My 10-year old daughter was in the 3rd row, screaming "We're all going to die." My wife got out of the car, and fell flat on her ass -- ice so slippery you couldn't even stand. Even though we were driving south, the outside temp had gradually been dropping all day, and the ice just snuck up on us. The next morning, local news reported more than 300 crashes the previous night.

I too say totaled.
I hope so for your sake as well. Nothing like having the resale/trade-in value go to $0 and STILL have to make payments on the car. That happened to me with the truck I am now stuck with. Had to make payments till it was paid off and I cant get jack for it for a trade in. Why I had to wait till this year to have enough for the down payment on my new Fit.

The car was 09, Sport MT, 4 months old. The car only had 4k miles... front end damage, but nothing to engine or transmission. Insurance totaled the car, sold it for 6K to my repair shop, and I had fixed for another 6K. With no damage, the car used would have cost me 16k, up here in CT if I could actually find a MT. Therefore, I paid 12k for the car... now, without a warranty. So, even without the damage you had, I still paid 6k for the repair. The repair was for hood, one fender, bumper, air bags left side only, one wheel, connecting rod, windshield and paint. Most of these parts are fairly inexpensive. The 6k repair includes the parts and labor, only. The labor is the killer in cost... that's probably why insurance companies are so fast to total.
