When I took the Fit in for an oil change/ mileage meter TSB the service advisor at my local dealer said Honda may be recalling the 09's + for the same window switch issue the 07-08's had....

That Toyota accident really happened in indonesia, near my office
4 teenagers got killed instantly when they drove Toyota Rav4. It is said that the pedal was stuck and they hit a house..one of the dead bodies was hanging on the tree. they were only 16-17 years old

I suppose ultimately, my ability to think in a time of crisis might not be as clear as I could hope for...

But for the moment... I just hope to remember there are TWO really easy things that can be done in an "out of control" acceleration.

Throw the shift into neutral.
Turn off the ignition.***

These two things can be done in almost any car. The *** is because push button starters take slightly longer to kill.

When I drive... I ALWAYS make it a point to NOT press the shift button when switching between neutral and drive (in an automatic). Like backing out of a parking space, I'll put the gear into reverse, back out... and just throw the shift lever into neutral as I'm stopping and again into Drive. Both times without pushing the shift button (the button you need to push to pop it into reverse/park or 1/2 gears). And when I park, I do the same from drive into neutral (regardless of whether it's a 20-point parallel or straight shot angle park), before finally pushing the button to move it all the way to park. I do this, to remind myself just how easy it is to get out of the drive/reverse gear.

As for killing the ignition... well, there are a few drawbacks, no power steering... no brake boost. But I think that those drawbacks are nothing compared to crashing full speed into a cement wall.

Again, I can only hope to remember this in a time of crisis, and not panicking and having my mind blank out. So that, if I'm lucky... having my engine red line and blowing itself out is the WORST thing to happen.
