Tired of getting shocked!!
Anybody else getting shocked everytime they get out of their Fit?? It's really annoying and I've gotten into the habit of closing the door with my shirt/elbow to dull the intensity, but it's their probably 90% of the time and is usually accompanied by an audible snap....
Doesn't seem to matter if it's a short or long drive either.

Haha yes, I have the same exact shock every time I go to shut the door. I do the same thing. There is nothing I can think of to avoid this. But I to shut the door with an elbow or tap it to get rid of the shock before I shut the door

I have gotten used to touching the door frame with the back of my arm while getting out to discharge so I don't zap my fingers. Its been like this in most every car I've owned. It's only in the winter here. wait until the Humid season arises and you'll wish for the Zap.

LOL. This is funny because there is an existing thread about this for GD owners. I think it was before the GE's came out. But ever since than I have not been shocked by my GD. But I think it only happened to GD owners since the floor mats were all new and fuzzy still. Now its happening to GE owners and their new fuzzy floor mats. LOL!

So I think I've figured out the trick to break the cycle of shocks...
1, After parking car, open door.
2. Place left leg on the concrete/grass, etc.
3. Touch the outside surface of the door.
4. Now get out of car while holding door with left foot on the ground (this is what grounds you...static is created as you scoot your butt across the seat).
Let me know if this helps...so far I'm 3 for 3 without shocks.

I don't think Fit is the only car generate this massive shocks because I get this from my 06 Xterra as well. But the shock from Fit is like a mosquito bite to me compare to the shock that I get from my Xterra lol. Anyhow, here's what I do and it works 99%. Right before you get out of the car, touch the driver side seat bracket for a sec. I know it is kinda stupid but it becomes a habit after awhile

Yup, this is what I do in my Evo as well and it works perfectly. Otherwise, I get a nasty shock, too.

I must be immune to shock or something. People complain about getting shocks in the Honda Ridgeline forums, too. I never get shocked from either vehicle. Must be the way I get in and out of the vehicle or something. Come to think of it, I don't think I get shocked when getting into and out of my wife's mini van, even though she does.

It's the velour (or whatever they are) seats. My friend's wife has seat material nearly identical to that in the Fit. When we ride with them, especially in the winter, my wife and I both get the crap shocked out of us getting out of her car... audible snap and all!
If it really bothers you, get some leather, "leatherette" or vinyl seat covers... it will cease immediately.
I've had leather in my cars for so long I nearly forgot what it was like going through "shock treatment."
I recommend Clazzios!

It's probably because of your jeans/jackets/shirts that you wear. Trust me, i got shocked ALOT =D. Try to touch the glass of your window on your way out of the car. it helps to send the "electric" to the glass, and voila! you're safe

Touch the glass before you touch the door panel and make sure when you touch the glass, your feet is on the ground.
