As long as you are touching the car metal area before putting your foot on the ground and sliding out, no shock is felt. What I do when on the driver side is:

1. Shut off engine.

2. Undo seat belt.

3. Left hand opens door latch.

4. Push door open.

5. Left hand makes contact and keeps contact with any metal area on the car.

6. Left foot to ground, slide out.

7. Once you are out of the car, release contact with the metal area.

It takes a while to remember all this, the shock helps to jar those brain cells. Reminds me of a Simpson's episode where they were shocking each other and gaining pleasure from it.

I worry a wee bit when getting gas in this car, the shock can seem dangerous.

lol! happens to me as well, at least it did in the winter time, but then again i replaced my floor mats to all-weather, a couple months ago and i haven't had a shock since. who knows!

Don't slide in and out of your seat when entering or exiting the fit

This happens to me too, all the time! I'm gonna try some of your suggestions.. I think the seats in the GD are particularly prone to building up static electricity or something.

You can hang a then braided wire (so its flexible) from the chassis to the ground so it discharges any static. Course you may have to replace it periodically. Make sure you hang it where the tires won't run on it.

Anyone have one of those ESD wrist straps for working on computers?

I'd try this, but I haven't bought myself a Fit yet (either in 2 months, or sooner if I get too impatient waiting).

Take the wrist part, which is just a velcro strap, attach to somewhere on the seat as close to you as possible... then take the other end, which should be an alligator clip and clip it to the seat mounting rail.

The hope is that any static that starts to build up is immediately discharged into the rail. That assumes two things, one, that strap is enough to draw any static off the whole seat and YOU... two, that the rail and the rest of the car chassis are linked so you don't get a separate discharge.

You don't feel it after a while. At least, I don't anymore. I hear *POW* and then I know I'm out of the car.

I always joke that if I ever get tasered I'll be like what the heck is this supposed to do? Dude, I drive a Fit!

I'd take a shock any day over that thing dangling from the back bumper. But that's just me.

I hate getting shocked too. So I try to touch metal as I'm getting out of the car. If I remember, I spray some anti-static spray on the seats when the humidity drops.
