I just wanted to verify that 205/55ZR16 would fit and also that that 205 is a wider tire not taller, my car is stock
Is 93 a tire high?

darn i hate to get a thiner tire. i am already giving those rims a beating as is.

 

185 or 205 is the width in mm. 50 or 55 is the aspect ratio(height) but its a percentage of the width, so as you go wider, the tire gets taller given aspect ratio stays the same 185x55% vs 205x55%. To compensate for this, you drop down in aspect ratio to keep the same diameter tire.

 

so when u say is to big u mean some rubbing when i do a u turn or hit a big bump? or consent rubbing?

 

I personally wouldn't put the wrong size tire on the wheel that is 185 mm.
You might have an accident on a hard turn when the tire will get off the rim. tire.png?t=1270318410 Wrong tire width. Basically if you read the automotive books, they always warn against using the tire sizes other than the original.

 

205 55s will rub, 50s will not. 185x.55 sidewall height is nominally 101.75 millimeters, 205x.50 is obviously 102.5. 205x.55 is 112.75 millimeters, significantly taller. As others have stated, leave it alone. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. Tires have as much to do with safety as anything on your car, don't mess with the specs unless you know how your car will be affected.

Does anyone know how wide the stock wheels are? I was thinking 16 x 6 and if that's the case I don't feel you could go with a 205 width tire because its just too wide for the rim and you'll get uneven treadwear and could be unsafe when doing some "spirited" driving.

 

you guys are making a big deal over nothing. the tires being 10mm
wider is not going to effect anything. just make sure like all tires
they are properly inflated and you'll be fine. plus you get benefits
from doing this. a wider contact patch and better handling.

im running 205 50 16 on my stock sport wheels. Way better ride, nicer, and same diameter with a wider contact patch on the road. I have put about 4k miles no problem, and i do rub due to the fact that i am lowered. hope this helps.

 

i put 205/50r16 on my rims too. The Continental ExtremeContact DWS. The sidewall is plenty strong. The "thinner'' ratio is off by like .05'' in radius so you wont notice it. I am not lowered and the only mod on my car is a spoon rear view mirror. No rubbing whatsoever. Just better handling, much more stable and holds its line better. The acceleration feels a touch sluggish, but the launch is much more of a swelling feeling than a skittish feeling. Drove in a blizzard today and it feels much more stable even with the wider tire. The 'agility' is lost a little bit, but the feeling of being glued is much more comforting. Taking corners and turns quicker too. The little bit of understeer from the stock tires is gone with these new ones.

Agreed. There should be a "Timer" set where anything that is over 2 months old gives you a "Are you sure you wanna bring this thread back from the dead? Yes/No" message. it gives you the option of doing so but warns people who use search about bringing an old thread back to life.

also, I wonder if in the list of threads, there isa way to show the original posting date, not just the date the last person posted. (Put the name, then the date of the thread right under the title)

205/50/16 on a 16x6 wheel is quite common. Other carmakers have used this combo from the factory a lot in the last decade. Every Focus you see with 16" wheels (there are multitudes of them) has this tire and rim size combo.

 

It could be because 16x6 with 205s is the smallest combo they can go to without seeming like they're putting on "dinky wheels."

the fact Honda still put 185s is just a sign of the times, some folks want mpg.

 

The 205/55x16 is 24.87" diameter and the 185/55x16 is 24.07". Additionally, the 205 weighs 1 to 3 pounds more on tirerack specs; that ought to slow you up and get fewer mpg.
