What are your Insurance Rates...?

I just got my new insurance all set up for my '10 fit sport, and I was blown away- they quoted me 510/6 months for full coverage with a 1k deductible...! They said if it was a fit BASE, it would have been a hundred or two less...! Our other car is a '09 forester, and that only costs about 300/6 months, for the same coverage. I am thinking I should have gotten a prius now..? 1k a year is a ridiculous amount to pay for insurance, I've never paid that much for ANY car Ive had, even the turbo AWD limited edition mitsu rally car I used to have...!

'09 Fit Sport. Just got my renewal. $440/6 months with a 500 deductible which I had only because the loan required it, but I just paid the car off, so I will shortly go back to a 1K deductible. I have State Farm and all sorts of discounts for multiline and accident free, plus I live in an inexpensive state.

I keep getting told that the Fit, and this class of vehicle, just has a high number of high-risk drivers, hence the cost of insurance. My old Protege was the same way. Years ago when we lived in NJ and Maryland we were paying even more to insure that car.

In comparison, our Mazda5 costs $280/6 months to insure with a 1K deductible.

$117.20/mo @ 10 monthly pmts

so i guess it averages out to $97.67/mo or $586/6 mo's... $500k liability, $500k uninsured, $5k medical pmts, $1k deductable, $40 car rental

only have one car, so thats part of the expense. my friend owns an insurance company and he told me if i had a second car, my insurance would be 20-25% less. for some perspective, my Accord at about the same coverage, was $830/6 mo's! ouch!

I'm guessing you don't live in a high populated urban area/zone. Around here in Southern Ontario, where there are close to 5 million within a 250km radius, a good rate is $1400/year, and continues well north of that depending on location, driving record, time licensed, claims history, etc. Hell a new driver in Toronto with a POS, would be lucky if they paid anything less than $3000/year.

Higher population concentration=higher collision risk=higher chance for injuries/death=higher payouts for medical injuries/death=higher premiums.

Wow! You're more the exception than the rule! Your car strictly pleasure, no commuting? Low km/per year?

I pay a whopping $830 every 6 months with a $1K deductible.....NYC insurance is higher than most of the country.

My last car, '99 Acura Integra LS, was only 606/6 months under the same plan, and that was a very high theft car. Any gas savings from this car compared to the Integra just pays for its insurance from the way i see it.

I get discounts for having my HO policy under same plan, no commuting (so technically a pleasure vehicle), and a bunch of other small discounts. $500 deductible. The plan covers a '91 Accord (no collision) + 2010 Fit (obviously, collision on the Fit). For me and the wife comes out to 87.61/month or 1051.32/yr.

My wife and I pay about $95/month for the '09 Fit Sport and an '06 Ridgeline RTS with a $500 deductible on each. - Progressive. My 93 integra GS (when I was in NJ) initially was over $2k/year. when I hit 25yrs old, it dropped to $1200, then I got my '00 GS-R and the rate went uup to $1400/year. Moved to PA and it dropped with Erie Insurance to about $800/year.

If anyone wants to get a quote for Allstate insurance just to compare prices and see if you can save any money - pm me your phone number and the time of day you'd like me to call. I can give you a friendy quote, none of that salesman pushy garbage, I've already got my sales for the next few months. I work 1:30p cst to 9:30p cst. I am licensed in 31 states so odds are I can offer you the quote.

I pay $614 every 6 months but I had an accident 2 years ago.

I pay 950 a year for full coverage [425 every six months] in NY. You sir, are paying through the nose. I'd look immediately for new insurance. I went to Geico for the Fit. No problems to be had.

Don't forget that a few things figure into your rate, on an individual basis. Things like tickets, accidents, and your credit rating all factor into your quotes. I always shop around for car insurance. I am NOT loyal when it comes to this. I played that game for too long and payed through the nose. I shop, compare, and demand the lowest premium or I'm gone. I work hard to have an excellent driving history and great credit score, and I want to be rewarded for that effort with the best premium available. And good rates ARE out there, even in NY- provided you're worthy of them.

keep in mind though that insurance companies also look at your prior insurance record when determining your rates. Customers who shop around and change insurance companies frequnetly are regarded as low value typically. For example if I give someone a quote who has been with state farm for 5 years their rate will be better than an identical customer who has switched companies every year.

Except in California where state law prohibits us from considering your prior insurance record and credit information. Which sucks actually because alot of people there are missing out excellent rates to support higher risk drivers.

I have shopped around and they are even higher....but i do have a bad record so thats y i pay so much... my license was suspended in '09 for too many points for 30 days... and i am not the primary driver either, its under my mothers name, and her record is spotless clean. I plan to combine my home and auto with Allstate and hopefully that'll help a lil bit. Plus any defensive driving that we could take will lower it also.

Not trying to sound like a State Farm commercial - but we've had State Farm for years, and there have been unexpected benefits. For example, two years ago my wife slid on ice and rear-ended the car in front of her at low speed. It was very minor damage, but our agent told us they were willing to forgive that incident because of our history. Thus, we still have the accident free discount on both of our cars.

I can't say whether this is limited to State Farm, but all I'm saying is that price isn't everything and sometimes you get what you pay for. I knew going in that the Fit is relatively pricey to insure, because of the typical customer base.
