Alright Louie, who's the style thief here??

Parked my '10 Fit next to a '10 Toyo Prius... -And wow, who's been stealing style from who?? The common low knife-edge slope of the front along with the squared back make these cars look like father and son! (And this prolly has something to do with the persistent rumor that Honda designed the Fit as a possible hybrid, because it's sure got that kind of styling!)

Wonder if Honda and Toyota could've farmed out the body design of these cars to the same auto engineering/consulting firm???

They don't look at all similar to me. If anything, the Prius and Insight have similar rears, and now the CR-Z.

The fit and the prius does not AT ALL look the same. The prius is purely designed to manage airflow as efficient as possible without looking like an airplane wing too much.

the sharp cut at the rear directs airflow much easier than a rounded design and the front's sloping windshield and frontend decreases coefficient drag. even the vent in the front are all functional in aerodynamics.

toyota did a lot of r&d to make the prius really slippery and the honda insight merely stole the shape and contours of the prius. why you ask? because americans are simple minded, the 2nd gen prius was the first hybrid accepted by the masses, and also all the "eco-minded celebrities".

the shape and design is burned into americans while honda is on the move to release its own prius fighting insight. what better way to market a hybrid than with similar designs just to confuse people and make hybrids homogeneous to the american eye?

also a quick fact, the civic hybrid has lower coefficient drag than the insight. so why the hatchback design of the insight? because it looks like a prius.

Sorry but I guess you seem to forget the very first hybrid in the US the original Insight which the current Insight was based off of just with 4 doors. If anyone copied anyone it was toyboat which they almost always do from Honda.

So why the hatchback, because that is what the first Insight was not because Honda copied toyboat and wanted to confuse Americans.

LOL! Well my friend, opinions are not AT ALL truths!
So AFAIC the 2010 Prius and the Fit have extremely similar front end designs! Maybe next time I'm parked next to a Prius (and I have a camera?) I should take a photo of the two front ends next to each other, eh?
Of course I know the cars are not identical; I'm not a fool! But there's a good deal more similarity in their over-all body design concepts than differences! (IMO!)

A 3rd gen prius passed me on the highway last night. At first I said to myself, "Hey that's a nice looking car, what is it?"
Something about highly aerodynamic designs excites me.

Toyota's first Prius looked like a corolla, and they didn't change over to the insight styling until like 2003-04?

A white Prius parks along the same side of the street as my white '09 Fit, and they do indeed bear a resemblance, especially to someone who doesn't know cars.

The Fit is much better looking, though

Agree completely...
Also the Fit's storage capability is far more advanced in it conceptual thinking IMO!

Before I got the 2010 Fit I took a used 2005 Prius ($15K) for a test drive... Didn't like it; I like smaller, sportier cars, and the '05 Prius felt too big and balloon like for my tastes and there seemed to be very little road feel in it's handling. Also the mileage register appeared to be settled on 35MPG, and I thot WTF, that's not so great that I would want to hafta spend all that extra $$ for replacement batteries when they wore out!?

So I thot the Fit was a very good fusion of being inexpensively green and having fun handling, and it's amazing carrying and storage capacity was a huge plus!

Honda's new Insight did fascinate me for a little while, but again it was too much of a 'blimp' for my tastes. -However if we didn't own a home and so need a vehicle able to sometimes carry larger, awkward objects, I would definitely take a long, lustful look at Honda's new and cool little hybrid CF-X sports car!

Toyota copied Honda's style from the 1st gen Insight. Honda > Toyota.

That is indeed very cool looking IMO! However it's also the deluxe one with all sorts of body spoilers and additions... If you took a plain vanilla base Prius, it would look more like a large Fit from that angle, I'm thinking...
