Oil analysis #3
These are the results of my latest oil analysis. The odometer was at 17.5k, with the oil at 7.5k. I used Penzoil 5W-20 and changed the oil filter (Honda OEM). This will probably be the longest I'll go between oil changes. BTW my driving is pretty laid back, no hard accelerations except for freeway on ramps and passing other cars, with a good mix of freeway and stop-and-go traffic.

Probably not. It took about six months for me to reach 7.5k. At that rate I'll change the oil twice a year, which I don't mind doing.
Regular Penzoil.
Regular Penzoil.

10K is a pretty long time to wait in between oil changes. I change every 3K. I drive about 30K/year. I do a lot of combined city/highway driving.

Would love to see a little more variety in driving styles with these oil analysis threads. We've got a representative for the laid-back daily drivers - how about for aggressive drivers and trackday warriors? Would be great to see how the oil is holding up in those kinds of stresses.

I agree, 10k seems too long. I would probably switch over to synthetic if I had to drive as many miles as you or in worse conditions, but for now regular conventional oil works just fine.

Weird, I went 8k on Mobil1 Synthetic with Honda OEM filter and my minder was at 5% when I changed mine. I wonder what that means or how the fit determines it's time to change the oil. Thats a 35% difference.

10k seems too long even though the oil analysis says go for it? and 10-12.5k is the offical normal oil interval with conventional oil let alone synthetic. Even the Severe interval is ~7k or every 6 months.

The MM has determined that you drive closer to severe conditions hence the shorter intervals. i.e. short trips. High revs. cold starts. stop and go. etc.

Also the maintenance minder and oil life thing is a joke.

OP What was the Maintenance Minder Percentage when you had your oil changed? I'm guessing it was closer to the 15%?
Out of Curiosity, why would you say the MM is a Joke? The Oil Analysis shows that the MM was accurate as the OP could have gone 12k which is what Honda states is the oil change interval. My personal opinion is that the Oil Analysis company and Honda have more experience with oil and every type of driving style than any of us on the board.
I'll probably switch to synthetic and change at the MM intervals. My GS-R ran smoother once I switched over to Synth and I could feel a little more power and at once or twice a year for oil changes... I can easily justify the additional cost.

In today's day and age, it's a waste of oil, time and money to change your oil every 3000 miles on a daily driver. I think dino oil should be changed every 7,500 miles and synthetic oil should be change every 10,000 miles. Come on people, no need to waste oil that is still good!
