It also depends on the conditions. If you drive somewhere that's quite dusty, you'll need to shorten the oil change interval to get rid of the dust and other crud the oil will have inevitably picked up within its stay in the engine.

Agreed with the general sentiment though. It's also an eco-friendly way of doing things.

and yet to others, it may also be a waste of money in addition to oil...
I like to go by the color of it on the dipstick. that and time. I don't keep track of how many miles, so much as the previously mentioned indicators.

I wonder what the Factory fill is..look at all that Moly!!

Keep posting the oil analysis's guys. I love reading them. Your engine has broken in nicely. Look at the marked reduction in wear metals. 3K might be cheap insurance but is a waste of resources. Almost any dino in normal driving conditions can go 5K minimum
