Random

The random setting in my 09 Fit sport has been pretty non-random. I use USB drive and it has about 200 songs on it, yet the same 25 or so keep "randomly" popping up. The other songs get played about oh, once a month. Anyone else having an issue like this?

I think it has more to do with your Ipod than with the car. Same thing happens to me without being hooked up to the car.

You are talking about Ipod, right?

no, not ipod, USB drive, but the same device doesn't have the problem when attached to my stereo during my workouts.

I noticed the same problem with USB flash drive. I think it reset itself every time the car is turned off and start from same short list again. I have not used random with an iPod yet.

It also has a problem sorting on a USB flash drive. I listen to audiobooks and a book can have over 100 tracks. It can never play them in correct order. But, it doesn't have a problem when they are on an iPod.

I think the problem with order comes with how the tracks are named (not the name you give them but like the encrypted name)...I've read a thread somewhere about a program that can help you rename and reorder things. I'm not sure...hmm.

I tried putting a numeric digit in front of every track and it still screwed up. I tried those apps too. They don't help, I ended up getting an iPod.

The ordering is due to how they are copied to the flash drive and the date/time stamping of the file itself (creation date, not modification date I believe). If you were to copy the files over one at a time, you would have no issue with the order in the folder. It's a pain but it's how it works.

Back to the OP, I have also noticed that random is awful. It seems to only play the same song from a given album...for instance I have ONLY ever heard it play the 2nd track of the first Adiemus album. It also seems to get "stuck" in certain folders...for instance most of my soundtrack albums are in a single "Various Artists" folder and there are times where it will play many songs in a row from among those soundtracks.

I've also noticed this as well. If a track repeats "too soon", I simply hit the "next" (fast forward) button. That seems to jog the random play out of its "rut".
