Generic Floor Mat Option

For those of you who think there are already too many threads about floor mats - STOP READING! You'll just get all upset.

For those looking for a less expensive option for front floor mats, I found some Sears rubber truck mats that fit pretty good. They cover the floor quite well, go up under the pedals without presenting an edge that could cause a pedal to get stuck, and trap a lot of water and mud. They even have an angled corner that somewhat matches the Fit's floor shape. I chose not to trim mine, but they could be made to fit even better with trimming. There's a silly cutout/window in one corner of each mat but it doesn't seem to be in a spot where a lot of dirt or water drops through. They were only $10 for the pair on sale, but regular price of $20 is still pretty low.

To help keep the drivers side mat from sliding around, I put a sheet of some grippy foam shelf lining under the mat. The very top of the drivers side mat pretty much butts up against a plastic shield where the steering column penetrates the floor/firewall which also helps keep the mat from sliding. Here are some photos:

Not bad, but how does it conform to the 'dead' pedal on the left? Looks like quite a hump because that mat is thick. And that pedal is pretty important for my comfort. I have generic mats that work well- fabric ones.

I buy cheap carpeted mats, and then trim them. Use a cigarette lighters and slightly melt the fibers at the edge, and they won't unravel. Buy a new set each year... Doesn't matter, they're cheapies.

They lie flat on the dead pedal, so you lose the 1/2 inch or so thickness of the mat there. There's space behind the mat just to the right of the dead pedal.

From the pics, it doesn't look like it would work at all for a 5MT. There isn't room to comfortable depress the clutch without possibly scraping but... hey for $20, you could buy another set and see if cutting out the dead pedal area would work. my other concern would be them sliding forward under the gas and brake.

I use a really good and heavy fiber mat my GF got me a couple of years ago- I think from QVC. They fit fine and don't move around. I really prefer a good fabric mat because it traps and holds the dirt, as opposed to it dumping freely around in a platsic mat well. I was all into a perfect Fit mat when I first got the car- not so anymore. Any mat that's fit well enough will do the job.

What is more of a concern for me is getting my lazy and sometimes heavy booted feet up and over the door sill and squarely on the mat. I HATE whacking or skimming that door sill with my feet. And so, I make a real effort not to do that.

Enjoy your mats. Looks good!

Btw- I think these are them, or my mats are very much like these.

Trapz-it Set of 2 28"x18" Front Seat Car Mats - QVC.com

I have the light grey ones. They fit fine and REALLY wear well. They never appear dirty, but then when you dump them over they are holding a ton of dirt/sand. Really great mats.

I could not find the sears floor mats suggested by the OP but I did find a nice set at COSTCO for 12.99 (front & rear). Colors: Black, Gray, & Tan
