Question for you young whipper snappers

I finally found a perk for hanging with a younger crowd...Ipod questions! LOL

I just bought my wife an Ipod Nano and I'm curious to know how (or if possible) to upload music from her old cell phone (LG Fusic) to her Ipod Nano.

This is her old phone

Thanks!

If you can extract the songs on her phone to a computer then put them in iTune.

Does the phone have a USB connector?

Hmmm what would the Definition of younger be? I hope I fit in...

As stated, if you can hook the phone up to a computer, then that's the way to pull them off. If not, the phone may support a microSD card (otherwise known as TransFlash) and you should be able to transfer to the MicroSD. Once there, you can plug that into a computer (via a card reader) and then add those to your iTunes library.

Can any song be put onto Itunes regardless of where they came from? She did pay for the ~60 songs but they didn't come from iTunes.

Her phone does have a USB connector but will just have to find it.

Depends. If they are MP3's they can be transferred. MP3's will play on any Digital Audio player as they contain no DRM (Digital Rights Management). If they are WMA files, they may be WMA Protected and will not play on an iPod. Usually you can burn them to MP3 CD's or Audio CD's and then Re-Rip them to MP3 Format. There's almost always a work-around for digital audio issues although sometimes it takes a few steps.

As far as I know, they are in MP3 format. I found the USB cable for the old phone but of course the phone is dead; so I am charging it but I installed iTunes in the meantime and have been looking around and unless I am blind, I don't see where I'd be going to transfer / upload the music to iTunes...

Guidance?

When you plug in the phone to your puter, any drive shown up on your desktop?

If the phone does show up, there should be a folder containing all the songs on the phone. Just drag those song into iTune.

What are you using, PC or Mac?

Ok, this is where we're at. I was finally able to upload my wife's music from the old cell phone to the PC (WinXP). The only thing it's not allowing me to do is to import the files to iTunes. It won't let me copy/paste, drag and drop or anything. It does take me to where I have to select the file but once I select them.........nothing happens. Ideas?

I also just noticed that most of them are .KOZ format.....whatever the heck that is. So now what? DL a converter?

It's an obscure protected format, good luck Googling a converter. Or simply buy her the songs from either Amazon or Apple.

Looks like .koz is a Sprint Proprietary format. You'll have to download them from the phone and pick up a .koz Player that will burn them to CD. Once burned to CD, you'll need to Re-Rip them to MP3 I'm guessing you'll go through 4 CDs when doing this so it's not too bad.

Right. The problem was after downloading many converters who claimed to convert KOZ files - none worked. After some investigating, I found out the KOZ files are the same as ACC, and found an easy and free converter. I tried doing one song first and was able to get it to iTunes, so we should be good.

I'm about 50% of the way through converting all the songs.

The old guy at 44( I have child older than that) is paying for tunes?

I just download free music using Limewire and transfer it to my stick and plug it into the USB port in the Fit.

But then I am a whippersnapper at 67.

I know about Limewire and used it years ago. Real nice way to get a virus.

I have found using Avast it catches the viruses. You are right though there are a lot of them on LimeWire.

If you got a virus through limewire, you are likely just as susceptible through standard day-to-day activity. Limewire is one of many, many vehicles malware can leverage. For the most part, a very basic and general background can help you with all of these vehicles, rather than thinking you are safe simply because you don't use one program.
