But the very day I drove my Fit home from the dealer I was in love. And a couple of weeks later I got by the painful thought of the fate of my poor Cougar.
'97 Tbird here. Practically the same car. Except I wasnt eligible for c4c due to 19 combined mpg . I have to say the 'bird was a TANK! I absused that car like no ones bussiness. Drifted into a tree. Slid on ice into a concrete pillar. Was rear ended TWICE! IN THE SAME SPOT! (Passenger quater panel) I burned out the drivers side Cat and replaced it with a straight pipe. I stripped one of the EGR valve bolts, while replacing it, which is impossible to tap and die at the angle its in without removing the engine. I had a lower ball joint fail (thankfully at 5mph in a turn, I would be seriously hurt or dead if it happened at high way speeds, and having a friend who owns a towing company to tow your car home instead of to a shop helps) and replaced it the same day. A week later the other lower ball joint failed (again at 5mph in a turn. I'm starting suspect that low speed turns place the most stress on the ball joints. Thats what a REAL drop looks like, when your front end is practically draggin ) and I ended up replacing every single front end ball joint just to be safe. Then my radiator fan burned out (It started a small electrical fire and i had to put it out with Mt. Dew, the only thing I had. and I replaced it with a junkyard one. A year later it burned out again. I was too lazy to replace it and the bird stayed cool enough as long as I didn't sit at idle for more than 2 minutes. You wanna see road rage, that was it, I wanted to murder people when I was stuck in traffic. One day I had to leave the car on the side of the road for a while. It was winter and I wanted to keep it warm so i left the car on. I had forgetten about the radiator fan so when I came back 10 minutes later the engine was dead. Antifreeze was everywhere because it was boiling and had poured out the resevoir. That anifreeze must have boiled for another 20 minutes while I waited for it to cool. The car wouldnt start for a full hour. Finally, it did start once it was cool enough and ran like crap but managed to get me off this side road I was stuck on. Once I hit the highway though and enough air was apssing over the radiator the engine went back to normal and all was well. I even once ended up on a frozen lake thinking it was a big field at night. I thought the car was gonna crack and crash through the water for about an hour as me and my girlfriend watched it form the bank. We then spent 2 hours trying to get it off the ice once we were sure it wouldn't sink through. I learned how to drive on ice that day. Yet, gosh darn it, that Bird STILL runs. I only bought the fit because there wasn't a chance in hell the 'Bird was gonna pass the emissions test. So, with that being said I have nothing against Ford. They make a great vehicle IF you know how to turn a wrench. Nothing major ever happened but it would have been expensive if I couldn't do my own repairs.

2007 Honda Snisen AP2
2003 Honda Integra R DC5
1994 Honda Civic Ferio SiR EG9
1995 Honda Civic SiR EK4
1990 Honda Civic SiR EF9
1988 Honda Civic Si EF3

All of these cars except the S2000 were when I lived in Okinawa from Aug 1993 ~ Jan 2008. The Snisen I picked up when I moved to Guam, it was a 2007, but was new and the only one they had on the lot.

Hoping in the near future while I am back in Japan to find a decent NS-X to be my play car. Still waiting to take delivery of the Fit, found out recently it was pushed back another 2.5 weeks and now not until around the 20th of January. Ordered it on the 14th of November.

03-04:
My first car was a 92 Toyota Cressida. Had a bitch of an oil leak and the paint on the hood was all the way down to the metal. Ended up selling it for the same amount I bought it for a year later. The guy I sold it too ended up blowing the engine because he didn't check the oil level.

04-09:
Bought a 93 F150 (staight 6, best engine ford ever built) after, and drove that until I C4C it for the fit. My salesman sent me a video of the engine being seized, and told me that the engine lasted the longest of any vehicle they destroyed... about 6 minutes.

the cressida i sold above ^ the new owner ALSO blew the motor a couple weeks after because he didn't keep up with the oil. damn 7m's!

at my friend's stepdad's junk yard, a land rover discovery came in from a C4C, and pegged it with no fluids and lasted 28 minutes...!!!!! every other motor my buddy says blows on him within the first minute, lol.

Noticed the EP3 also. That yours too? If so, you need the short roof kit for the EP3. Moves the roof rack bar back about 1' - still clamps in the same places. Had it on both my integras - made a world of difference.

Nice cars... Silva looks fun.

Think I'll have the longest chronological line in here

Since everyone's going back to their first car... I guess I'll run my list, and, for brevity's sake, only list my daily drivers.

2001 Mazda Tribute (what a parts and repair hog)
2001 VW Golf (sold it due to high oil consumption)
1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport (T-boned by an idiot driver running a light)
1989 Plymouth Voyager (ahh The Minivan years)
1990 Geo Tracker (fun, but Teensy)
1983 VW Westfalia Camper Van (fun but expensive to fix)
1985 Camaro (fast but a flexible flyer)
1979 Chevy Luv 4x4 (tough lil truck)
1979 Renault LeCar (was I the only one to like these?)
1976 Honda Civic (died in a flood)
1970 VW Bus (crossed the US and rebuilt the engine in my dining room)
1967 VW Bug (with snow tires it was a mini-tank)
1966 Chevy Corvair (if they were REALLY unsafe, I'd have killed myself in this one)
1960 Rambler American (as Jake Blues sez, it was a 'lay-down Rambler)

Ironically, I still think of the Rambler as having been about the perfect size, 100" wheelbase. The Fit fits my 'ideal size' criteria at 98" The Corvair had the longest wheelbase of any of these beasts, at 108" Just an observation...

The Corvair was the most innovative car to come out of Detroit. There were some suspension geometry issues prior to the 64 model, but with that year they incorporated Vette rear end architecture making it a wonderful poor man's sports car. People also ran them with way too much pressure in the front tires.

Here's a nice example. Note the factory turbo: 150HP! And this was 1964!

The Mustang and Camaro were more responsible for the vair dying out than Nader, but it lived a good life from 1959 to 1969. I think 66 was the best year.

corvair, Si!

Agreed. The 64 had some mods but 65 was the year that they changed to fully independent suspension. Mine was a factory 180 hp turbo convert. It is the ONE car that I never should have sold.

thanks! nah, the EP's not mine, it's a buddy's. He was thinkin about getting the stretch kit for it, but his snowboard is pretty small so it doesn't have an issue with roof clearance. now if he were to hold more than 2, yea he says he's def need the kit. but he claims it holds it, lol.

I keep my cars for a LONG time. Only had three.

1990 Honda Civic HB, I bought when I was almost 16.

2000 Toyota Celica GTS, fair amount of mods. Loved the car to death, but after the mods it wasn't that practical, every time the wife drove it, she would bump the front end on something, and it was for all practical purposes a two seater. Just outgrew it.

And now the 09 TW, manual, Navi, Fit!

I just picked up my '10 Fit 3 days ago. Got rid of my 2000 Subaru Outback as I was only getting 15 mpg in the city (Philly), and 22 on the Hiway. Love the Fit Sport, MT. I wanted something I can drive fast, but still get great gas mileage. I still have a '98 M3 which is my track car, which incidently, got better mileage than the Subaru. Other cars, too long to list as I'm an old fart.

It's us old farts that have to struggle to remember how many cars and women we've gone through that are best qualified to evaluate both.

Tranny crapped out at 115K miles, and I wanted something with a better reputation and more space for stuff!
