Winter wheels/tires, TPMS,ATEQ Quickset
I bought 195/60-15 General Altimax Arctic on 15 X 6.5 Elbrus 105 SDC ICE wheels with TPMS sensors and ATEQ Quickset all from Tirerack. I installed on the Fit myselft and reset the computer for the TPMS IDs. Here are some comments for others thinking of winter tire/wheel purchase:
1. I chose these tires because they are inexpensive and got good reviews. Surprisingly, they are quieter than the OEM tires! A little squirmy, but that is expected. Otherwise fine. 2-4" of snow tonight, so I can test in snow tomorrow.
2. I chose those wheels because they have a 3 yr. finish warranty. Sometimes the finish wears poorly on cheap aftermarket alloys. They cost $7/wheel more than the cheapest option. They are silver painted, not clear coat. They look nice.
3. I got TPMS because I called my insurance company and asked if I had an accident and had a flat or low tire and did not have TPMS would I have a problem. They said I might because it is the owner's responsibility not to disable any safety equipment and TPMS is std. safety equipment. So no TPMS is more than an annoying light. It might mean no insurance payout too!
4. The ATEQ Quickset did what it was supposed to do. Tirerack included a sheet with sensor IDs that I loaded into the Quickset using a Windows program and a USB port. TPMS light on Fit flashed and then went out in around 1/4 mile. Quickset read summer ID values, so I'll be OK when I change wheels back in spring. I suggest recording all eight TPMS IDs in a Word document just in case.
5. Tirerack does not code the sensor to the wheel. I wondered if Fit computer needed to know which sensor was on which wheel. It does not. The four sensors can be in any position on car.
6. Those who think that no TPMS is just looking at a dash light, think again! It's not worth the insurance liability. Total additional cost was $135 for the Quickset and $144 for the sensors and no recurring costs. For me it's worth it. My dealer wanted $115 (1 hr. labor) to reset the TPMS, so I am out only $20 now ($135 - $115) and in spring will be ahead! Once you understand the Quickset it will take 10 minutes if you are slow, so you save a lot of time over going to the dealer/tire place.
I hope this helps people to cope with TPMS on second set of wheels.

Thanks for the post. I was vacillating between getting TPMS on my winter wheels or not, and this helps. Glad to have confirmation that the Quickset tool worked.
Sadly, it's about $300 additional for the TPMS sensors and Quickset tool.

TPMS question
Thanks for this great post. I too have 2 sets of rims for my 09 base FIT. one problem is that I don't have any of the TPMS sensor #s. Will the ATEQ Quickset tool read these, or do I need to go to a tire shop and have them read the #s for me and then manually enter them into the Quickset?
thanks.
thanks.
