Spare Tire Question

Hi, I am a potential Fit owner, looking at a 09 Fit Sport.

I've been trying to find out what the deal with the spare tire is. I've seen reviews that says Honda did away with the spare tire to make more room for the "magic seats", but i've also read elsewhere that there is a spare tire included...so my question is... for US owners....

Is there a spare tire there or not?!?

- Thanks.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is a spare tire in the 2009 USDM Fit.

Automatic transmission equipped Canadian models do away with the spare and provide a tire repair kit instead. Manual trans Canadian models and all US models come with a spare.

That's weird. I wonder why they chose to do it that way.

Fuel economy.

It doesn't make much sense to me. There are some very remote areas in Canada with some rough roads that could rip a tire to shreds. Not a good place to be without a spare especially with our harsh winters. Some areas don't even have cell service.

Does anyone here have an automatic with a spare. I remember reading the Autos did away with the spare to save weight.

All US Fits come with a compact Spare tire... Auto, Manual, Sport, Navi, Base,... All have a spare.

In Canada to qualify for some government fuel savings rebate, the car has to hit a certain mpg target. Honda learned with the auto, because of the extra weight the car would not qualify, where the MT would. So to have the auto version get in under the wire, they get rid of the spare and jack and instead the autos get the spare repair kit. The spare tire/jack is then an option on the auto, so you get the rebate, but you'll spend it to but the spare tire/jack, if you so choose.

Well mine came with a jack amd no spare tire once you have it jacked. I suppose I could use one of my winter tires as spare in summer and viceversa ,but why add weight. I am not in one of those igloo living areas. We have modern hwys and cell phones and CAA.

Yes, there is a spare for U.S. owners. I think the only owners who do not get a spare are Canadian LX owners. U.S. owners must have a spare because we have TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). Canadian owners do not.

If you have TPMS then you cannot spray that canned crap into the tire... it will damage the TPMS sensors. Honda can get away with not providing a spare for Canadians. Again, they don't get the TPMS... but they do get the can'o'crap and I think an air pump, plus a nifty little styrofoam tray with a bunch of little compartments where the spare would normally be located.

Yes... we U.S.-ers still get spares!

In Canada, it's not based on which model (DX, DX-A, LX or Sport) it's based on the transmission choice. Automatic doesn't get the spare. Manuals do.

Oh, ok. That's interesting. I wonder why based on transmission choice? I made a mistake too... I meant the Canadian 'DX' model, not the 'LX'. A guy from Canada told me he thought (wasn't for sure) that only the DX models got the pump, tray, etc.

Also, I saw this vid. (watch to the end of it):

YouTube - 2009 Honda Fit DX (Canadian Base Model) Exterior/Interior
Cool tray!

Anyway, I was close, sorta'!

Thanks for the correction.

I have a 2009 Fit Sport A/T and there absolutely is a spare tire. It sounds like there may not be in other countries, but there is in the US (I'm in PA and bought my car from NJ).
