Interior trim problem

Hi, I purchased a 2009 Fit Sport (automatic) last week for my son to drive to and from school. It was a used vehicle with less than 6K miles, and seems to be in excellent shape. I picked it up at $15.3K plus tax and title. One problem I noticed, which is on both sides of the interior, is where the sholder belts come up out of the trim. Right where the bottom trim meets the top trim, the joint is seperating. The bottom section pulls out toward the seats. I've pushed both the driver and passenger bottom trim section back where it belongs (did not hear a snap or pop) but I can see it pulling out again. They both pulled out so far that I can see the top of the bottom section. Looks to me that there is nothing holding this. Anyone else have this issue?

i think you need to pull the rubber seal that runs around the door opening/jamb, i BELIEVE that there are some tabs on that piece you're referring to that is held down by the rubber seal, just pull it out in that area and check if that's the case. It's really easy to do and wont ruin anything.

I'll try to post some pictures when I can. Strange that this problem is on both sides. Yes, I did push the bottom trim back in place, which means that it had to re-slide back under the rubber seal. But that didn't seem to hold it. I called a honda dealer and talked with the parts dept..he looked at the computer to view the part. Could not determine what made it hold in position.

I took it to the local Honda dealer today to fix a burned out fog light and for them to look at the interior problem. The technician pulled the rubber molding away from the joint area, both in front and behind the center pillar. After he did that, you could see small L-shape clips coming out of the bottom plastic trim, up near the joint area..the part that is pulling away from the lighter color top trim. He said that the only thing holding it in place is the rubber molding and those clips. I guess the assumption is either those clips were never sandwiched properly into the rubber molding, or they somehow pulled out. He quickly fixed both..end of story…I hope. About a week from now I should know.

huh... the only explanation (?) is that the previous owner had a stereo installed and perhaps they removed those panels for the wiring?

Strange that the problem occurred on both sides. I wonder if your interior hasn't been worked on (for whatever reason, including water damage or a headliner issue).

Good luck with the car. It's encouraging to me as a perspective seller down the road that the car fetched so close to retail in the used car market. Anyway, if I do let mine go down the road, I'll wait for a spike in gas prices to help with the depreciation. With nav/vsa, I paid 20 large on the road, which sometimes seems ludicrous to me looking back, but only in light of current gas prices.

No, the car has never been modified. And no, I didn't buy a water damaged car. It was only careful examination that uncovered that problem. Thanks
