Oil life in 09
#21
the first thing out of my good friend and personal mechanic's mouth was that honda does put a special break in oil in their new cars and that the oil should be used for a much longer period of time than usual. Do what you want, but I'll trust someone who knows what they are talking about, not my gut feeling based on what I did in the past.
based on the oil life meter on the fit, it tells me to drive about 9000 miles between oil changes. i got my first oil change at 5500 miles because that's what all the kids were doing. lol.
i think my oil life meter read 40% at that time... in other words, between 30 and 40%.

from what ive heard the oil life meter simply keeps count of the revs of the engine. so one would think it could be relied on more than the MPG display, which i assume is a more complex task.

true, I guess a lot of us just want to believe the maintenance minder works because it's convenient

Just change it when you feel comfortable doing it. But following MM is not going to hurt you. I changed mine a 8300 b/c it was apparent that if my driving style remained the same, I was going to to around 14k miles. I just wasn't ready for that! But I'm resolved that I will go for it next time.

It doesn't drop 1% at a time. Any day now you will look and it will say 90%.
