Tint and Polarized Sunglasses

Just had my Fit tinted 32% all around and if I wear polarized sunglasses in the car I see a rainbow effect looking through the side windows. It's not the glasses, my wife sees the same with her's. Does this happen to everyone, or is it my tint?

Same here. When I wear my sunglasses, polarized, the windows tend to have this amber-ish/rainbow color and when I take my sunglasses off, windows are back to normal.

Yes, polarized sunglasses do this. In fact, look at other smooth surfaces that cause glare. You might notice a difference in yer radio LED, other people's windows might appear "spotty" - it's normal.

With polarized glasses, you can see a rainbow effect pattern on most cars even the stock glass without tint shows it.

You can also see a change in brightness and color of the in dash displays. Just tilt your head to one side an it shows more red then tilt the other way and it's more blue.

Oh good other people see the rainbow! I thought I was flashing back to my youth in the 60's.

Polarized sunglasses do this to the lexan windshield on my Harley, too.

It's cool, I can see the stress concentrations around the mounting holes in the "rainbows".

This happens too me too, it's really bad on the older Lexus SUVs. Also, I can't see my cellphone screen at all when I have my sunglasses on.

I also can't see the displays on gas pumps through polarized sunglasses.

Has anyone else noticed that when you're wearing polarized lenses, Mercedes' and some BMWs have purple windshields?

But one more benefit of polarized glasses is the glare off the dashboard on the inside of my windshield really disappears.

Some tints and cars with tempered glass tend to have the rainbow effect. I have polarized ray bans and I see it a lot in older minivans and sometimes with certain tints.

Yes, Renault, Peugot, Audi, and some of the higher end VWs as well. It's also much easier to see into oncoming cars and make eye contact. It's extremely useful when you're on a motorcycle, because you can tell where the other drivers are looking.
