Mugen Quick Shifter question

If you have one installed, do you like it?

Is 90$ for labor to install it out of line?

Hopefully picking up my new Fit sport Monday, and am considering it. Test drove a Hyundai Accent SE that had it installed, and there was a big difference between that and the Fit Sport I test drove.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

its a complete waste of money. get the t1r and do it yourself and save $200 it works exactly the same way. if you already have it though then $90 is still a complete waste considering the mugen short shifter comes with the whole assembly and should be incredibly easy to install

I don't have the Mugen, but I do have the T1R short shift and I love the short tight throws. As for $90, I would install it myself and save the money. It really is not that hard and don't require that much knowledge to change. There is a podcast on College Hills Honda's site that show how to change it. The gratification of doing it yourself is priceless.

I have tried both, I like the mugen one better. However $90 is a ripoff. It takes like 15-20min to install it.

Hey guys, THANKS!

This is just the kind of info I was looking for.

I was ok with paying for the Mugen as part of the loan, but I was trying to get the dealer to install it with no labor charge as part of buying the Fit.

The salesman couldn't find it as an option on his computer, and I about had to jump over the service guys counter to bring up Honda's build a Fit page on the web to show their parts guy what I was talking about.

The sevice department was closed by the time we got paperwork done last night, and the salesman called today to say that one of the techs had researched (HA, he should of just come here) installing it, and they wanted the $90 bucks for the install.

That ain't gonna happen.

Eventually, I'll go with one of these, and thanks to the links, I'm sure I can do it myself.

Really appreciate the help!

if you dont know what a pushpin, 10mm bolt or c clamp looks like, do not do this yourself.

have someone that knows what those are if you plan to DIY.

Trick question right? 'Cause a c clamp is really shaped like a W.

Mugen Quick Shift installation is not that hard actually, as long as you have the right tools on hand...

We pretty much know the Mugen is based on the Honda shifter, just a taller housing and more length to the shift rod below the pivot ball.

You can do basically the same thing with the skunk II kit for about $49-54 shipped. Not hard to install. Works great!

buddyclub short shifter > mugen

but on the real tho, the install is pretty basic and way easier on a GE than a GD.

Housings are identical. Mugen shift lever is about 3/4" shorter above the pivot, and 3/8" longer below the pivot, compared to stock.

H-Fit makes a kit as well, and it includes hard mounts for the shifter housing.

I combined H-Fit + Mugen, see my sig for a link.

Does the Mugen shifter retain the easy "arcade game" feel? Because honestly, I like that, and I'd rather keep the long effortless throws over short throws that require more pressure.

What about the T1R or Skunk2?

can only speak for the skunk (but they are all about the same)

does increase the effort, but it is by very little.

Nope. Well, maybe "F1 race car arcade game"...

I miss the falls-into-place ease of the stocker too. But I have the JDM console and wanted the lever higher without ending up with ridiculously long throws, so I deal.

Yeah but you combined 2 shift kits for extra short throws, not many will do that.

For 1 shift kit the extra effort is neglegeable

I tried everything individually as well. I had the H-Fit kit for a while, got the Mugen shifter and ran that by itself for a while, then combined. (Then I added the lever extender, and then I shortened the lever extender to suit my tastes, but that's all beyond the scope of this thread.)

Agreed, if all you do is add the Skunk or H-Fit extender. The Mugen shifter is not only is longer below the pivot, it is also shorter above the pivot. That changes the shifting action and effort considerably. Most people like it, including me; but IMO if a person wants to retain the ease of motion of the original shifter, they should not go with the Mugen.

Just resurrecting this thread since I'm about ready to buy a short-shift kit.

Just a couple questions:
1. Which to get? It seems like I should actually avoid the Mugen since I like the "easy" feel of the OEM shifter. Any opinions on Skunk2 vs. H-Fit vs. T1R?

2. Does the OEM knob fit the replacement shifters?

3. Any good DIY/tutorials on install? There is a video linked in this thread, but I thought once I saw a DIY with pics but can no longer find it.
