new windshield???
hey all,
I cracked the windshield pretty good from a semi kickin up rocks. I went to a friends glass shop and had one ordered. When it came in, the new window was too small. So we ran the VIN number and it said that the windshield needed to be ordered as a 2010 and gonna be $575!!!! Any advice for me? I had to put the old one back in and it is more cracked now since it was ripped out.

Sounds like you're screwed man. Go somewhere else and have them check and be SURE they order the right part for you the first time. Try and find some place that has them in stock, better yet a shop that will come to your house and replace it. Just reiterate the fact that you have the NEW model Honda fit, and that the old windshield won't fit. Get prices during this experience and chose the lowest one to do the job. Good luck!
Nice tint job, car is lookin pretty sweet man!

If you have a 2009 Fit that needs a windshield, and the glass that came in was too small... there's only one answer. They ordered the wrong glass. The 2009 model fit is the most current model. Even if there was a 2010 model (which by now there may be) it would have the same wind shield.
I think they got a pre 2009 glass and when they realized it was the wrong piece they fed you some B.S. about the 2010 model year. Can't help you about the price of the glass, but I think your body shop is full of it.

I had to have my windshield replaced after I had my Fit less than 90 days.
I had a gentleman come to the house and it was 315.00 total with installation. Its not a Honda windshield in which we were quoted 580.00, without installation, I guess maybe I can get that one next time. Its such a large target, I am pretty sure there will be a next time. The windshields look identical other than the new one is missing the Honda logo.

Some input from an auto glass company:
Would have to agree that they ordered the wrong piece of glass. No two ways about it. I understand wanting to cover your rear, but that's a silly thing to say.
The NAGS (National Auto Glass Specification) windshield for an '09 Fit is part # FW03013 and lists for $539.45. The Honda OEM part number is 73111-TK6-305 and lists for $575.
Depending on where you get your glass, it might be from the same manufacturer, made on the same assembly line, but without the Honda logo, so in most cases, the NAGS part is just as good as the OEM part. Also, most glass shops and auto glass companies offer substantial discounts on the NAGS listing, so you shouldn't have to pay more than a few hundred bucks.

Did the shop put your cracked windshield back on free of charge? I hope they didn't give you any trouble..

The last car I owned (not a Fit) had a cracked windshield. I didn't have collision insurance and the insurance company would not replace my windshied. However my insurance company (and a lot of others I think) will allow you to call and get the name of the glass companies that they have discount agreements with.... they allowed me the option of calling for me or me calling myself and using their referral to get a substantially discounted price. I have done this once before in two different cities and never had a problem with the discounted price from the sanctioned glass shop.
