First scratch on new car

First scratch on new car
So, here I am, deployed, with my baby tucked safely away in the garage back home and I get THIS email:
"I just finished doing the yard, yanno raking the leaves and picking up sticks. Anyway, I was putting the rake away and I accidentally hit your car with it. "
And these:
I know it's not the end of the world, but it definitely felt like it when I got the pics. I hope it's only the clearcoat and I can just buff it out!!!
*Hangs head in anger and dismay*

Dude, THAT SUCKS!! And you can't even get out there and take care of it NOW!!! But truthfully, it looks more like paint from the rake and not a scratch. I think you're going to be fine.

I do feel your pain. Today, I hopped the curb on my GE, and found out the hard way that the tire isn't quite as wide as the rim. I got a nice gouge on the edge of the rim. It could have been a lot worse, but that first scratch always hurts the most. It's not even the scratch, as much as the idea that I was stupid enough to do it that hurts.
Like I've said, I don't need anybody else to damage my car, I can do it all by myself.
To preserve my sanity, I've learned to use the "3 foot" rule: I'll touch up the scratch or repair it as best I can. If I can't see it from 3 feet away, it's good enough. Without seeing yours, I can't tell if that's just a scuff in the clearcoat or a chip down to the primer. Either way, good luck with it.
