Stomped on brakes in break-in period, should I be worried?

Well I'm at 75 miles in my new fit sport auto, and I had to brake pretty hard to avoid crashing into a wall after getting on an off-ramp too quickly. I did not notice any change in the feel of the brakes afterwards, but I know you're not supposed to brake hard during the break-in period. Should I be real worried, maybe take it in to make sure they're ok? Or should I relax and do my best to break them in lightly the rest of the 200-300 first miles? Just not sure how worried/upset I should be here. TIA!

your fine. Don't worry about it. Just don't make it a habit and don't take it in unless you feel a significant difference in the way the car brakes.

Look in one of the break-in threads. There's no real break-in period anymore. Just drive like normal. One time brakestomp won't damage anything. It's better than red-lining. A lot cheaper to fix.

That's actually how you're suppose to break in new brake pads if I remember correctly :P

Something along the lines of going 40 then stop. Then go 60 and stop. Do 60 again and stop. And I think thats about it. Again, not entirely sure on details, but I know that's how its done.

So don't worry about a thing

Aggressive bed-in of brake pads and rotors (the procedure you're describing) requires that you don't come to a full stop. Yes, you go hard on the brake pedal in a series of controlled stops from a rather high speed (60 mph or so), but you shouldn't come to a complete stop because that might result in the brake pad material fusing to the toasty warm rotors. You should be braking to about 10 mph, then repeat.

It goes without saying that you need an open road or area that isn't being used for this procedure, somewhere where you can pile on the speed and brake without worrying about hitting someone or something else.

Stoptech has a lot of technical whitepapers on brake bed-in procedure on its website: www.stoptech.com

heh i remember on day 2 or 3 of driving the fit and the traffic light hit yellow, didn't think i had enough time/space to speed through the light, so i hit the brakes hard >.< the heads of the whole family lunged foward and slammed back on the head rest >.< 50 mph to 0 mph in 3-4 sec = bad g forces lol but yea i didnt feel like it had any problems afta that.
