Looking to buy an '09 Fit

Hello everyone. I'm in the market for a new vehicle and have been reading up on the '09 Fit. I've been (and still consider myself) a huge VW Golf/Rabbit enthusiast but the prices are just too high. So, I've been looking at the Fit, as it seems to what I'm looking for - it's a HATCHBACK!!!!! Sorry. I'm interested in hearing how people feel about their Fit, especially reliability issues and the like.

Thanks everyone!

Fit is it, no question. Just read the board and try and find reliability issues... they are few and far between and mostly insignificant crap or user error.

Fit is great, I've owned 2
Go for a test drive!
And maybe the best time ever to get say $300-600 off list,as for the first time in 2.5 years they are starting to stack up on dealers lots (it's tax time and the recession depression thing)

Honda reliability exceeds that of VW.

I think you are going to get some bias answers because after all, this is a Honda Fit forum. Few people here are going to have anything negative to say about the car. But if you check indipendant sources like Consumer Reports, they will give it glowing reviews. If you drive one, I am willing to bet you will as well.

Just got back from test driving one and it's very very nice. I cannot believe how much room it has. It rides very nice and quiet which makes my current car even more horrible now. I agree that the VWs have gotten fat throughout the years. I'm definitely leaning towards the Fit now. Thanks all for you 'biased' opinions (hehehe). Seems that there is almost no negative press about the Fit out there.

No negative press that I am aware of. As far as negative comments, most of them are from people that have never been inside one of these cars.

I did notice how huge the windshield looked. Almost feels like sitting in a fighter jet (well, a very slow fighter jet).

We had a GD Sports (2007), then an Element SC and now going back to a GE Sports after I had a chance to drive my friend's new 09 FiT Sports automatc. The GE is sooo much nicer and tighter too! You are going to love the gas economy on this one!

Fit has less horsepower, Volkswagen isn't that great on relability. Fit has a shorter warranty, Volkswagen has stability control "standard". Fit is better on gas. Volkwagen is a little bit more in price.

I think the benefits of the Fit are the cost of what you get and the mileage. VW's fuel economy has dropped over the years, which frustrates me. I wish they would sell the Polo here but I've read the earliest that will happen is 2011 (and I'm sure our govt regulations will screw up any fuel economy bonuses). I'm not a gear-head by any means and don't need to have umpteen hundred horsepower. I just want to get from point a to point b as cheaply as possible but yet, still have some fun doing it. VW lost my business years ago, not because of their products but because of my wallet. As it stands now, they aren't getting it back because of their products. Unfortunate but things do change over time.

Definitely leaning towards the Fit now. Just determining the hit on my wallet and how long it will take to get the one I want.

Well, looks like an '09 Fit isn't in the cards right now. Just don't have the room for the payment and I actually found a used VW Golf from the past that I got for a steal considering it's condition and mileage. I'll be sticking around and checking in on all the info there is to know about the Fit.

Can't really compare the Golf/Rabbit and Fit. They're different cars.

When they release the VW Polo, THEN we can start some comparisons. VW always gives us the crap previous model and keeps the best for Europe. Apparently, the Polo will change that.

Add every other car manufacturer to the list. Imagine if we could drive a Turbo Diesel Fit. We would definitely be last on the list.

Looks like honda even killed the diesel accord for america.
