Hid

I drive the 2009 Honda fit and would like to get some more powerful head lights. Do the new fits come with stock HID lights so that i don't have to buy an upgrade kit... any ideas are welcome thanks.

Keep in mind any HID's in the US are probably illegal unless they came from the dealer. Can you get away with it? Maybe at the lower temps. Can you get pulled over and ticketed for it? DEFINATELY.

I never recommend them since I try to keep people from getting pulled over. Just get some nice PIAA or Sylvania bulbs that are hyepr white.

That is originally what i wanted to do; put the hyper whites in, but i kept on hearing about these HIDs. How is the install with just changing the light bulb to a piss.

There aren't any optional OEM HID lamps in the US or other countries that will fit the USDM '09 Fit.

Installing newer HID kits is a breeze compared to before since the newer kits are inline systems that are pretty much plug and play. The only real thing you need to do is find and plce to mount the ballast then disable the DRLs(Daytime Running Lights). You don't have to remove the bumper but if you do you have a better location to mount the ballast and make it look more stock.

The many concern that comes with HID's is that there is so much glare that it blinds other people even when pointed down. This is why people recommend retrofit because you take your headligth housing and fit in projectors from a diferent manufacturer that has HID'd. The projectors give the ligths a clean cutoff and reduce glare making them look stock.

One question, are the kit's plugs designed to fit our Fit's? or is there a universal connector? I'm talking about the part the attaches to the Fit's projector housing.

The fit doesn't have a projector housing, its a reflector housing. Thus any plug and play kit will look like crap. It will glare. It will blind oncoming drivers. It won't be any brighter than stock.

If you want HID's you will have to get the projectors retrofitted from a different car. I have PIAA's in my headlights and they are a lot brighter than stock and actually give off usable light.

These plug and play kits are going the way of altezza lights and underbody neons.

I think having HID will def be brighter, it's just going to be untammed like a bull in a china shop.

I've got some HIDs in my 09 and they're pretty good. Going with a retrofit is the best way to go. My HIDs are a lot brighter than the stock headlight bulbs. There is a little bit of glare or ghosting right in the middle on the upper portion but the cut off is pretty good. I've got some pics posted in my build up thread if you want to have an idea of what they look like. I will go with a proper retrofit as soon as money and time permit.

Please do not put non-retrofitted HIDs in your car. It's the most annoying thing ever and it blinds everyone else on the road. I swear next time someone is behind me with P&P HID kits I'm gonna get out of the car and smash their headlights in. Just get some Sylvania Silverstar or Ultra if you really need the extra light. Though I'm not sure what you need it for, I'm in Northern/Central CT and I've got places with no street lights at all and I am fine with the stock bulbs.

almost all HID retrofits are a bad idea. they never have the light source in EXACTLY the same position as the stock non-HID bulb - this causes the optics to be off because the housing and reflectors were designed for the light source to be precisely in a given position down the the mm.

On a related note, getting JDM lights are also a bad idea because the reflector or filter/cutoff design has the lights lighting up the wrong side of the road - thus causing huge glare problems for cars coming the other way.

This is where retrofitting projectors would be a must.

You'd need to get a projector set up for HID. Halogen projectors have a reflection surface that relies on the light source to be at a specific location - HID bulbs tend to have a slight different location for its light source compared to a halogen bulb.

You install the other cars projectors, some use FX35 projectors or Acura ones, then black out the rest of the headlight. That way there's no reflection and you get a clean light and cutoff.

There are some really nice retrofits done with Halo Eyes from an Audi and FX35 projectors on the boards. They used a pet food bowl to block off the reflector and the results look OEM.

I know they aren't real HID, but I bought 5900K HID-like "XENON HID HEADLIGHT 2007 2008 2009 07 08 09 HONDA FIT" from hipropower on Ebay for $11.95 shipped to my house. They are definately brighter, look very nice, and were easy to install.

This is after I installed the passenger side bulb but before I installed the driver side. It's not a great picture, but you can easily see the color temp difference!
