How far can you drive once the gas light goes on?

don't even push it just go and fill up the tank. I made the mistake in my Deville, I only gased up after the light was on and soon there after I had to buy a fuel pump. Not a cheap fix either for the Deville. it went out becuause the pump was sucking air as the gas moved to the side of the tank when going around corners. Now I always gas up when there is a quarter left. Hey you will have to buy that tank sooner or later!

My '09 manual, on p. 62, says, "When the indicator comes on, there is about 1.64 US gal (6.2 L) of fuel remaining in the tank before the needle reaches E. There is a small reserve of fuel remaining in the tank when the needle does reach E."

Took a road trip to Savannah, Ga this weekend. On the way back in between Savannah and Macon there is nothing. About 45 miles or so outside of Macon the light came on. I made it to the gas station (luckily), but I was prepared to walk. The tank actually went to 11 gallons. I was very surprised! Have always filled up prior to the light coming on but there's always an acception.

GEs and GDs have the same size tank, yes?
10.6 US gal... If that's the case the light comes on with 1.6 gal left in the tank. How far you get with that will depend on your driving habits.
I squeezed 54 miles out once. Sweating the entire way.

Never cut it too close. The bottom of the tank is where the dirt and water reside. As someone noted, the sloshing of fuel going around curves can result in air in the fuel line. Modern electric fuel pumps are expensive devices, and you don't want to take a chance.

Ohhh the other day I was screwed. No gas station around for miles and I was going UPHILL with the light on. I believe I drove about 30 miles with it on. I was SO relieved when I pulled into the station omg

I made it over 25 miles last week. Drove from here to chicago going east to pick a friend up, then back here, and went about 7 miles west to target.
Since I was on one straight road the entire time that probablyy helped some I imagine? I dont know anything about the automotive fuel system...
