Latest Fill-Up, Amazing Gas Mileage!

the reason the prius is so expensive is because of the engine, hybrids are relatively new technology that is constantly being refind to produce fewer emissions and get better mpg. all new technology is expensive, but as more people buy it the price drops no matter what it is. but yeah i'm averaging about 7 L/100km in town and about 5ish on the highways.

Below are the things that affect fuel economy:
1. Heavy right foot, flooring it all the time, especially in stop-and-go traffic.
2. Driving faster than 55 mph on the freeway (I know we all do it, but cars get the best freeway mileage at 55 mph)
3. Driving with the A/C on.
4. Driving with under-inflated tires.
5. Driving with a lot of "stuff" in the trunk, heavy stuff. Plus roof-racks hurt mileage too.
6. Driving with a really dirty car, especially a lot of caked up mud and slush in the under-carriage of the car.
7. Not keeping up with regular maintenance, especially getting your oil changed every 5,000 miles (or when the oil life indicator drops below 15%) and your air filter changed when it's necessary.
Of that list the two things that affect economy the most I think are driving with a heavy right foot and driving really fast on the freeway. Even under those conditions the Fit should be getting better gas mileage than the EPA. Something sounds seriously wrong with your car to be getting 26 mpg. Are you sure you're calculating your gas mileage correctly? The only way I can imagine getting 26 mpg average is by redlining it everywhere I went with the A/C on.

they are not based on real world thus favor some cars more than others and are generally inaccurate
2007 Fit EPA ratings were like 30 city, and like 37-38 hwy which was a lot closer.

all companies measure gas milage by their "real world" tests. which for them is a closed track simulating a highway or a city street at sea level with the wind at their back to make them look good. lol its all estimated so they don't have people taking them to court for a false claim

Wow, after seeing everyone's average it makes my 40mpg look...suspicious . I only have gotten 40mpg on one tank and I literally drove like a frickin' grandma everywhere. It got really boring and tedious...
-drove 90kms on the highway, sometimes 80 (that's like 45 and 55mph I think)
- Coasted on all downhills
-drove just under the speed limit in the city and coasted to allot of red lights trying to catch the green
-accelerated slowly, shifting often, braking little
But yeah, hand calculated, I hit 40mpg with 10mins of my commute being city and 20mins being highway.
I can't see myself doing this again. My usual tanks average 32-35mpg, driving defensive, but not painfully slow.

Just got 41.47 MPG (8.72gal over 385mi) driving down from La Crosse, WI to Kalamazoo, MI through Chicago. Stopped to eat and at various tolls, driving 65-70MPH most of the time (no cruise) except for ~30min of stop-and-go in Chicago. In-dash computer said 45.8 MPG at the end.
However, over the life of my vehicle (~6 months and 9000 miles) the overall average (kept track using the awesome www.mymilemarker.com service) is a much less impressive 31.3 MPG. That's what Minnesota winters, a commute that's either 75MPH highway or stop-and-go city, and Sport mode do

Aha, but you forgot the all-important IGx89=tired after driving all day. Then 385 turns into 358 (sleep-induced dyslexia) and gains 1 (rounding error) to become 359, 41.47 turns into 41.17 (that pesky sleep-induced dyslexia again) making 359/8.72=41.17
Sorry about that; I even have a math minor, believe it or not . Cookie to you for actually performing the calculation.

This is crazy!
First fill up after the "free" fill up from the dealer. We went to the big city to make a Costco run and filled up there and drove home ~ 100 miles. The readout is saying 43.8 MPG.......
Its uphill most of the way with some long downhill stretches as well. We had 60 miles of 75MPH as well as 20 miles of 60MPH and 20 miles of 55MPH highway.
I think they have made the switch to Summer fuel in ABQ, NM so I am feeling pretty stoked at the moment. We got 38.1MPG on the first tank!

Wait you can, but somehow it does not seem so elitist.

Even Consumer Reports says that their actual average for the car is 33 mpg, and I know that they don't drive for optimal fuel efficiency.
When I see other larger cars with really high EPA numbers, I'm very suspicious that the entire new EPA system is off.
Another thing I've noticed in general, is that in actual driving conditions reported by real drivers (see Fuel Economy) Hondas usually outperform Toyotas in actual vs EPA mpgs.

I'm averaging about 34 in Minnesota winter fuel and temps here, mixed driving on 09 AT base. Seems that average outside temperature affects mileage a lot too, the colder, the longer it takes for the engine to warm up to operating temp (which means the computer runs it at slightly higher RPM). Also the colder climates sell gasoline that has lower energy per volume. I'm hoping my mileage goes up as the weather warms up.

i know lol. that way it's not totally false. like the weapon r intake for the Ge. lol 15 whp....
