Pinstripes: Yay or Nay?

The dealer will take those off for free. When I purchased the car I had them do it on the spot. When you go in for a service explain to them you meant to say something when you purchased the car, you should have no problem if they want you to keep coming back. Or you can purchase some accessories from them and use the pin stripes as sort of a "I'll buy these if you do this for free" tactic.

I have them on mine, too (did not pay anything for them), and may remove them very soon. I just got my Fit Sport Saturday. My main concern is not with the stripes breaking or tearing, but them fading and looking bad later on. Plus the "edge" collects residue (from dirt and waxing), which is the main reason why I would want to remove them.
If I do remove them, I will do that myself--I know I will be careful. I don't trust dealers with anything paint related.
It amazes me Honda or any dealers put the striping on--I assume the striping is cheap (although I have seen the accessory sticker on cars show $100-200 extra for striping) because it was far easier to get my dealer to eat the striping cost than it was to get the other accessories (floor mats, wheel locks, and trunk tray) for free, which I ultimately did.

I got my Fit about a month ago and it came with dealer installed pinstripes. I was going to keep them until I read this thread. Then I went back and fourth on if I should pull them or not. I thought they looked okay and knew once I pulled them, they were not coming back.
Well, today is a slow day at work and when I got back from lunch I thought about how if I pulled the stripes later on the paint under them would be fresh but the rest faded. So I decided to pick at the edge of one with my fingernail to see if they came up and they did. They appear to be pretty cheap (no surprise) as one was already starting to come up at the edge. I started pulled them all off in the parking lot with no tools needed.
Other than a slight amount of adhesive left in a couple of spots, they came off clean. A little soap or some goo-gone will take care of the adhesive. The car looks so much better now. I didn't realize how much those stripes were taking away from the car. (They were silver and black on a Sensation Blue Fit, BTW)
Bottom line, pinstripes suck.

Pinstripes cost about $2.50 to put on a car. The place that does the pinstriping will charge $50 for labor. The dealership will charge $150 to $250 for the pinstripe, and say "well, we can't take it off." It's a ripoff, just like the "Dealership Processing Fee."
I say lose the pinstripe if you don't like it. Personally I don't like them, and I told a dealership to stuff it, because they said they couldn't take it off. That pinstripe on your car looks funny. Pinstripes are supposed to flow, and that one doesn't flow at all.

A lot of half-baked installations include a razor cut into the paint instead of cutting the strip off the car and then laying the edge down. I can't stand a bunch of razor cuts on an otherwise new paint job.
When I ordered mine, I told the dealer if it "accidentally" winds up with stripes or those cheap plastic glued-on door edge guards at the time of delivery, I'd walk away from the car, even if that s*** could be removed.
No stripe would look acceptable on our cars, not even one that's professionally painted on. But, to each his own.

Would rather have racing stripes
I don't mind pinstripes -- some cars have subtle lines that are enhanced by pinstripes, if they are done well and not with cheap tape. IMO the Fit doesn't need pinstripes. However, I think the hood on the GE would look great with a single stripe in the middle "bulge" or even double stripes along the sides of the "bulge."

I've been considering putting a pinstripe on, mainly for novelty to match my college colors. But in looking at the '09 design, there isnt a straight line to follow from the front to the back, unless you stopped right at the back windows. Now I am thinking about an accent stripe at the bottom of the doors, but we'll see.
This car doesn't seem to take to striping very well.
