While puttering over on the Australian site (that had the red steering wheel insert) I was looking at the CR-V:
Honda - Showroom - CRV
That's the kind of model variants that I would like to see in the FIT. I'd still have bought the Base model and I'd still be pleased as punch. But there would be more selection and options for others. The Sport would still be sporty. Adding in a Luxury edition with the squishier seats in leather that are heated, etc, that would be great for a lot of people. And the Special Edition with roof rack, for people who would do camping or kayaking, etc.
Plus the Hybrid, of course. Plus a couple of engine options.
Why are those Big 3 automakers having so much trouble? I think one problem was too many car models, that did not do much of anything. While the Fit fits all kinds of needs for all kinds of people.

I personally wouldn't mind a "Fit Si" or "Type R", assuming they would boost power considerably, but that would mean making many overhauls. First, I'm not sure the engine bay could house a larger engine (I'm not an expert on that), maybe it could. But still, suspension/tranny and even body rigidity would have to be addressed. Then, wheel and tire sizes/upgrades would come into play, and from what I heard, even 205/50/16 are bordering on rubbing. So if Honda were able to create my Fit Type-R, what would the realistic cost be? $25,000? Look at the Mugen Civic Si or S2000CR. Without power upgrades the price hikes were $5,000-$7,000 from the standard models.

We already have, as standard, a whole bunch of the optional features in the above packages. Like a/c. Like a stereo. Etc. FOR LESS THAN THE CIVIC!
But there are things that are NOT available on the U.S. Fit, at any price, from the dealer. Like the leather seating, heated seats, outside temperature, rear disc brakes, moon roof, etc.
Fit Hybrid, that could easily become THE government/state vehicle for most purposes. The business car. It would have everything basically needed. Plus the beauty of those magic seats, so that whether it's someone from the water district or someone from toting around survey equipment, they can all use the same car. They don't really need a big gas guzzling truck most of the time. Honda could even create a "business special" that comes with heavy duty rubberized flooring, so that when the back seats are folded down, the whole back area is covered with sturdy rubber stuff.
People obviously are buying the range of Civics. And we have most of the features already. We can get the VSA and NAV. Just a few more features would be awesome!

My Fit has 4648 miles on it as of today. Oil life display still says 70%, but that means it actually could be as low as 61%. Still, that would indicate over 11,000 miles before oil life goes to 0%. I sure don't intend to wait that long for my first oil change. Probably will change oil and filter at 5000 mile intervals, just as I do for my Ridgeline.
BTW, my average MPG has been about 37.5 (hand calculated) so far. MPG meter reads about 10% high consistently, so it's almost always reading over 40 mpg. No complaints about that

Supposedly the oil life remaining is determined not by miles driven but rather, by what the car's computer determines is the oil's condition--- based on your individual driving habits, driving conditions and driving environment.
I bought my car in mid-October and ran up 9600 kilometers (about 6000 miles) before changing the oil. I switched to 5-W-20 synthetic and a Napa (ie: Wix) oil filter--- NEVER anything Fram---, and at that time my oil life remaining was at an indicated 60%. I drive a LOT of highway miles rather than stop-and-go/ city driving.
The kicker was that even though my indicator said I still had 60% oil life remaining, this oil was quite contaminated and certainly due for change. Maybe it was because this "break-in" oil was in the engine during break-in and therefore became dirtier than normal. Or maybe not. Either way, I don't trust the oil life indicator after seeing what I've seen.
I'll do another oil change when it is again at 60% oil life remaining and observe the oil's condition at that time. Since the engine is by now well broken in, and since I'm now running synthetic I expect the oil to be cleaner next time. If it isn't I'll never allow the oil life indication to drop below 50% before changing the oil and filter.
Oh, and I now have 11,000 kms (about 6900 miles) on the car.

I have 5,968 miles as of today. I bought the car on 11/14/08.
