choose between auto or manual.

choose between auto or manual.
I was wondering what would you guys choose between auto or manual. I would pick sport with 5 speed manual transmission. Anyone on here has it and how do you guys think of it? Discuss.

We bought MT. Drive both if you can, and don't let others' personal preferences influence your own purchase. My wife insists on MT. I don't care, myself. There is no rush hour traffic out here in the country. AT cruises at much lower RPM, but always wants to downshift before it will do anything. MT has a smooth shift linkage and works well with cruise control at highway speed. You probably can't go wrong with either, but they are different enough that you would want to try before you buy. Both of us are very happy with our MT. I liked the Sport AT with paddle shifters, although I know I'd rarely use them and would let the tranny do the thinking for me most of the time. Some people write here about loud engine noise at cruising RPMs with the MT. We haven't noticed that.

if you're into motoring like me, definitely go with the 5MT.
if you're into getting places A to B with convenience, go with the AT.
that's wat we did... wife loves her AT and i love the fact that she luvs
her car. i luv MT so i got MT.
just go with your gut feeling. both are winnars.

While I agree manual is more fun, I opted for automatic...my wife drives a Miata with a 5-speed manual and last year she had knee surgery. This kept her from driving her car for a few months...no strength to clutch.
We decided then that one of our cars would be an automatic from now on...we're getting older and like it or not we have to think about that...
sad but true. The paddle shifters are cool though...

Well... seeing as you will be the one spending $17,000+ on the car and having to live with it every day. Id say to hell with what every one else says and got what you realy want. You could even go test drive both MT and AT and see what you like the best

A good example of why people might choose one transmission over another is to notice that one member picked up an A/T and in six days has over 1,000 miles on it. Their last car had 70,000 miles in two years, commuting around. That would be a LOT of shifting with a M/T to do in a city/metro area.
So much shifting, that even while walking on the sidewalk, there is the temptation to downshift for power while walking past two slower pedestrians while screaming at them "Sunday driver!" and giving them the finger... only to realize you aren't really in your car...
