Wow that looks good! I can't believe the Navi panel from Honda is only $35.

 

In response to your 2 questions . . .

1) The viewing angle is fine. However, the Fit's problem is the huge windshield and and window area in the car. My windows are tinted (35%) and I have a dark band at the top of the windshield and it's still not enough! On a sunny day, because of the low sun angle this time of year, the screen washes out pretty badly at times. And I have turned the screen brightness all the way up (+10).

There are 2 things I plan to do to remedy this situation. First, I'm planning on getting the Honda window visors anyway. That will help cut down the light level in the car maybe a little more. Second, I'm going to try to construct a handmade cowl or visor to surround the top and upper sides of the NAVI screen. I'll do one with cardboard first to see how effective and what size is needed. Once I settle on that, I will make a more permanent one out of some thin black plastic and some double-stick adhesive.

2) The new unit comes with its own iPod/USB cable. And yes, it is routed to the upper glove box through the same place as the factory cable. I don't actually need my white Apple iPod cable any more.

 

Good find, that's less expensive than the steering wheel audio controls for the GD (prob cause it was import).


If I'm not mistaken you'd still have to get a PAC interface like the PAC SWI-PS ---> Products
And then you have got to route the wires.


I like how these aftermarket navi's are looking. Very nice!!!

 

Does anyone know where to tap into the speed sensor on the car for the navi?

FYI for any of you who plan on using any of the above parts--the Metra Kit (99-7898) won't work for double din units, as it has a little storage compartment built into it that takes up 1/2 the space.

 

I did some research and the Metra Part # should be 99-7877s. Hope that helps!

 

wow. that's so clean! i think it almost looks cleaner than the oem honda nav. this one looks like it sits more flush.

 

Nice job but the only thing that still keeps me from getting one is the way its angled torward the driver so its pointless for movies

 

It is a really nice job the shop did for U. I am thinking of installing F700BT by myself. Can U tell me how they hide the wire for the mic going to the ceiling and gps mouse wire on the dash for you? Did they do the hardware hack so you don't need to pull the parking brake when watching DVD?

 

You shouldn't need to. Doesn't GPS give you speed by itself?

My Nokia phone gives me reasonably accurate km/hr and it's not even connected to the car.

 

The speed sensor is for car running when losing GPS signal (like in a tunnel). I thought the speed sensor is part of the OEM harness since the radio volume is adjustable by car speed.

 

That's true. The volume thing is a good feature, and it does indicate that the OEM radio harness has a speed signal. It isn't essential for GPS navigation though.

What you really need is a wiring diagram. I've only ever found one for the GDs.

 

More people should post up their aftermarket navi/ dvd player DIY instructions!
