Another gas cap option...(updated)

Well, I tried to source an Element gas cap locally and didn't have any luck so I'm going to try the 07-08 Fit Locking gas cap. Part# 17680-SAA-G00

I searched "locking gas cap" and didn't see anyone saying this wouldn't work, only that it hadn't been tried. Am I wrong?

Either way I ordered it and I'll keep you updated *gulp

**Updated** I finally was able to pick up the gas cap today and it DID NOT fit.

The 07-08 Honda fit gas cap was too wide and the hinge of the gas cap door would make contact with the wider flange.

if it's the one from collegehills listed for GD it did not work on my GE8. i have one
on my GD and tired it on my GE8 before ordering.

the cap handle is too huge and hits the hinge on the GE8. you need to find
a smaller handle version like a stant or something. there may be 2 factory sizes
cause some folks have a factory one that they claimed it worked on their GE8.

key hole almost always freezes up.

If you have the Sport, doesn't the central locking lock the flap over the gas cap when you lock the rest of the car? That's how it works on my Jazz. When the doors are unlocked, you can open the flap, when they are locked you can't. No need for another key for the cap itself.

Interesting. I've never actually tried that. I'm going to go check if mine does that. brb.

Edit: Just checked mine and it doesn't do that. I wonder if that feature could be added?

I retrieved the Honda locking cap from my wrecked GD, and it fits on my GE. The door touches the top of the cap when it is closed, but it does close. Maybe Honda sourced the GD locking caps from more than one maker, with slight differences in design/size.

You'd need to source the solenoid, and connect it to your remote central locking

I was looking at a 370Z at the dealership and notice it has the same push open/close mechanism as the Fit but on the Z if the doors are lock the cap doesn't open. Wonder why our Fit doesn't have that.

I also wondered too. I'm very interested in getting a locking gas cap, but wouldn't my dealership have a problem?

Hey guys, all it takes to defeat a locking fuel door is a guy with a screwdriver to pry it open. I know from experience. I was able to fix the broken door on my vandalized vehicle, but the locking feature isn't much protection.

Yeah I understand that but it's more about knowing if it has been tampered with or to prevent kids from messing with it.

Yeah I get that. Right now they can pop it open and rip the lid right off the car. No tools required!

Vandals can do lots of damage. Any small deterrent is an added benefit.

slightly OT but I want the Stant insta-fill gas cap.

could foil thieves somewhat as it would be hard to slip a flexible tube thru the trap door.
