So ur keeping the spare in there too? To me it seems like there won't be enough square footage/inchage behind the sub. Let us know how it goes!

Awesome!! I'm sure you'll generate great interest with this install, and props for being one of, if not the first to actually get this done on a GE8! I think it goes without saying that we would all enjoy as many details as possible regarding this project, including specific materials/amounts used, lead time, and product dimensions. I would seriously consider this exact same setup, and would be most interested in the performance you get out of this, considering the restricted airspace and unique design of the sub.

One way to compare this to traditional sub setups (like mine - JL 12w6v2, sealed enclosure, 300w RMS amp) may be to compare using a decibel meter. I own a digital model from Radio Shack (Model: 33-2055
Catalog #: 33-2055) and would be interested in sharing decibel levels once you have completed installation. Obviously there are several variables present which certainly will skew the results (most notably amplifier selection, song selected) however I think it would still be an interesting experiment.

If you haven't already, you may consider sharing this thread within the Fit ICE section at some point as well, but since there aren't specific GE8 sections yet, I don't blame ya! You just may get more audiophiles to chime in.. Anyway, thanks for sharing, congrats, and keep us updated.

+rep for a very interesting project... Can't wait to hear more details! I had kinda nixed the idea of a sub since the cargo capacity is more important to me. But maybe I've got another option now...

I don't think I'm as big a audio file as you. i don't have no DB meter.
But I do love my music enough.
I will share as much as i can though but it's very hard.
I can't be having resin all over my hands and be taking pics at the same
time but i'll try.
thanks for chiming in.

I was on the same boat as you. i came from 12's
I didn't want to take any space up either. so i came up with this.

I was seriously thinking this. It's as if you read my mind.
I happen to have extra material and i was think to make a couple
to sell. Currently i think i have enough for two more but i'm not
100% sure yet till i finish with mine.

question?

how are you going to keep your spare tire in its place when it's currently attached with a bolt in the center of the wheel? i'm thinking you'll be bolting it in and then securing the speaker into the box??? is there enough room for the bolt under the speaker magnet?
i think this is a great idea, and will definatly be keeping my eyes on this thread

DAMN u beat me to it. I started one for my GD3 but i never got the MDF board on. I was going to use the exact same sub because i have heard the slim pioneer subwoofers in person and they actually do pound pretty hard for being a shallow mounted sub.

I wasn't going to use a speaker cup but to run the speaker wire directly through the fiberglass to eliminate the use of connectors to the sub box but that's a great idea too.

One way to mount the sub box to the spare tire is to use hook/loop fasteners around the inside of the rim and the outside of the sub box where they sit inside each other. Use the "fuzzy" side of the velcro on the rim side and the "hook" part on the box. That way, in case u ever need 2 use the spare tire, the velcro attached to the rim wont' affect the useability of the spare tire and won't really show since it'll b inside the rim.

don't forget to stuff the box with poly-fill. U can buy it cheap from any Joanne's or Michaels or Wal-mart. it's just pillow stuffing.

Sweet...I wonder if you can fit the amp on either side behind the plastic panels?
