Help! Need a new key...

I lost my key and have been borrowing the wife's. I've been too afraid to even ask what the dealer is charging. What is the best way to go about getting a new one made.

I tried searching the forum but nothing came up...

THANKS!

yes because of the electronics you should get it from the dealer, they will need all your current keys to reprogram them they may charge you anywhere from 35 to 90 just call and ask

Unless a miracle happens only Honda dealers have the key blank and the programmer. Expect to pay about $75 for a new key unless the dealer is taking less. I was warned by my dealer on delivery of m,y Fit.

I have a sport with the built in security and my dealer said it would be about 300 for a new key. Not sure if she knew what she was talking about but just FYI.

'09 with nav and factory security (no motion sensor), I was quoted $75 with programming. I don't believe your dealer was speaking knowledgeably.

That dealer is not one of the good guys; I suspect he'd be the first to 'find' something wrong with your car every time you go in for service.
Besides the other poster here I found 4 others who were quoted $75.

i work at a dealership (honda)
this is what is going to cost you
a brand new key (50-80$ depending on how much mark up your dealer does)
.5 hr to 1hr service charge (this is to program the key) (at my dealership we charge 1 hr, which is about 105$)(some dealership might charge less, but it shouldnt be more than 1hr)
so for a new key to be cut and programmed we charge about 150-180 plus tax)

is it possible to get a third key without remote for a lower cost? i would prefer to have a backup key without the bells and whistles, for emergencies only. honda should already be providing this in my opinion.

Without the remote I think the alarm would go off when you open the door, right?

Anyways found the key (after months and months)! Good thing to since it is so expensive to get another. This is good info to have and I appreciate the responses!

Buy a genuine Honda blank online for cheaper then have the dealer cut and program it to match your car. That way you only have to pay labor.
