Tire Pressure Light?

Tire Pressure Light?
i just checked all my tires , and they are all between 30-32 PSI , but my tire pressuse light is on , not the TMPS but the tire with the ! mark in it one. i thought it only came on when one was LOW , like 25ish ? is this normal?

That light does mean a tire is low... is your gauge very accurate? I'm not sure what the exact threshhold is for the light to come on but isn't the recommended pressure over 32PSI?

Hell, some of the hypermilers on this site like to inflate theirs well into the 40's and 50's... I wouldn't do that but with the temp fluctuations you can get in the winter (as it gets colder the PSI drops and your TPMS light can come on) it won't hurt to bump it up a couple of pounds.

But again, there is some leeway built into the sensors, I just don't know what that number is (I'm sure someone will post it) I'm thinking it was somewhere around 27PSI so you shouldn't really be having trouble anyway.

According to my mechanic shop friends nearly all cars have trouble with the TPMS sensors. They are supposed to activate at 24 to 26 psig and lower but apparently a good number are activating at pressues as high as 36 psi. If you use a good tire pressure gage and your pressures are 30 psi take the car back to the dealer for verification and replacement under warranty. it is after all a government required system.

Mine actually came on for the fist time this week. It happened when it got to 10 degrees outside. And it has been on ever since, I dont really feel like messing with it. I just assume that when its warmer the air will become more dense and correct psi will arise.

So, you're gonna leave it like that all winter?

First air gets less dense with increasing temperature unless confined and thus the pressure increases.
Others are right however that you need to increase the tire pressure til the light goes out. Too low pressure can lead to blowouts.

OK, at 777 miles on my odometer, the (!) TMPS light came on. I thought it was due to the cold weather here in the north east.... I check the pressure, and every tire ranged from 34-32PSI... now I know the "perfect" fill is 33 PSI on the sport model, so I filled the one that was SLIGHT (ONE) psi low.
The light is still on. Do I need to reset it some way? or do something else? The light is still on and at 777 miles, I am NOT happy.

i'd just ignore it. if your pressure is good, just ignore the light until next time you need to go to the dealer.... in fact you can look at the light as an ever lasting reminder of the government sticking its nose into places it shouldnt be.
my TPMS light was on literally as i drove off the dealers lot with my new car.

Same here.. the fronts are at 33~35 and they still look low... I think I`ll try 40 tommorow and see if the light comes on
