MT Fit - Rev Limiting

Hey guys... I have a 2009 Fit with manual transmission. I was driving today and was merging with traffic. I was going about 65 MPH in 3rd gear. I went to shift into 4th gear and somehow I moved the box into 2nd gear. The engine revved up very loud and then I quickly shifted it into neutral.. then into 4th gear. I know manual transmission cars have rev limiters... do they work as well if you accidently try to shift the car into a gear that is too low for your current speed? Could I have hurt something in my Fit?

No, if you mechanically over rev the engine to over rev it and the rev limiter will not stop it.

I doubt you hurt the motor because it was only for a very short amount of time.

Rev limiters only work when the engine itself is supplying the revs, not when the revs are supplied to the engine by a bad downshift.
I bump into the rev limiter in my Jeep from time to time, tho' at a lot fewer turns than the Honda....
Anyway, only way to see if you hurt anything is to wait and see. The good news is that you're still in warranty. The bad news is that the computer may remember your little excursion past the redline...
Sound okay now? If so, you're probably okay.
