Would you have the dealer replace this?

Update...

Took my car in to get the knob replaced plus I mentioned how the b-pillar trim was scratched, the roof has a billion hairline scratches and how there was a inch long scratch on the panel next to the ignition.
The service manager was cool and said he would take car of it. Two weeks later the parts came in and I dropped the car off for the day.

They put on new b pillar trim that is also scratched buffed the roof and put a ton of swirl marks in it. Put three pry marks in my dash trying to access the heater control knob. They out-sourced a guy to come in and touch up the little areas they scratched. He got overspray on the the new knob and the one above it. Overspray on the cup holders. Overspray on top of horn on the steering wheel, and on the wiper stalk. Plus I guess the new panel under the steering column had a scuff on it so he painted half of that. He also blended the areas all the way over the glove box.

What a nightmare! I should have never brought it back in for these guys to "fix". This whole this has had me really mad for over a month. I'm supposed to bring it in this week to have the guy respray it so it will match better. I called honda of America but had them hold off on contacting the dealership until I try to resolve it better myself.

The dealership said that replacing all the parts that have been painted would be a big job, and that I wouldn't be happy with the outcome.
They would actually have to replace the whole dash panel.

I know a lot of people would probably wouldn't even notice the scratches and overspray unless it was pointed out to them, but I do, and it has totally ruined the enjoyment of owning a new fit. Every time I walk out to my car I think about it.

I've thought about trading it in for another one. I know I would be upside down a grand or so, plus I would have to pay sales tax again. I might opt for a automatic this time around. My wife wants to strangle me.

I wish I just kept my $3500 GTI

what would you do in this situation???

I just picked up my 09 Blue Sen Sport MT this weekend. Later that night I noticed that the climate control dial has some jagged scratches on the face of it. Probably 3 or 4. Its not a huge deal, but I'll see it every time I get in the car during the day, and its a brand new car. The thing is, that its probably not the easiest thing to replace. I don't want the techs messing up my dash.
What do you think? I'm totally anal about stuff like this.

I wouldn't think that it'd be a huge problem to replace...it's just a dial afterall. I'd go talk to them about it. But if you really want to talk to them about it, do it quickly 'cause the longer you wait, the less they're willing to believe that it came like that and that you did it yourself =/.

Stuff like this I've gotten burned on in the past on a new car, where I didn't notice a flaw at the time of delivery and had an issue with the dealer later. That's why I do a very slow, detailed walkaround when I take possession of a new vehicle. Every body panel, wheels, tires, open and close every door and hatch. check all lights, check underhood, fluid levels, check every interior component and function, etc. Yes, they think you're insane and a PITA, but I've never failed to find something that was overlooked. Saves you a lot of potential hassle later.

I plan on calling today, that's why I wanted to get some opinions first. It seems like when you go in to get something fixed, they end up scratching something else. I brought my wife's 06 civic in to trouble shoot an annoying noise and they end up getting grease on the headliner in about 4 different areas.

Are the scratches deep? If not, you might be able to buff it out. Keep in mind that buffing plastic will make it shiny.

the scratches took some of the top coating off the face (the part that lights up when you have the lights on at night). I'm 99% that buffing it wouldn't work. Thanks for the input though

That part should pop right off and no screw is holding it. Theres two parts to it the panel the knob. The knob cost $9.01 and panel is $2.86.

Mine had 1 or 2 faint scratches on the face, but it was too mild to complain about. Once you spend more time driving this car, you'll find yourself hitting that very knob looking for one of the other switches on the dash, so you may just scratch it yourself anyway.

New should be new.
I think the same way.
If there are scratches I want to be the one putting them there!

exactly...

I called the dealer, and they are ordering a new control part. It costs like $7.50 or something, they are going to cover it. I might watch them when they do it so they don't scratch something else.

When I bought my last car (an 06 Accord), the light on the mirror on the passenger side visor was broken. I had them replace it. The dumb ass, who was the manager of the service dept., that replaced it put oil smudges all over the brand new visor and the upholstery by the visor. (*^$&@&@(*$(*($&%

In other words, yes, make sure they don't mess something else up when replacing what needs replacing!

I would definitely want it replaced to new condition. They should be able to do the replacement without any more damage. Hopefully, they are a dealership who value their customer satisfaction and will do a good job.
Let us know how it turns out for you.

I would definitely have the dealer replace it. I owned a Nissan Versa which I discovered the automatic gear shift cover was scratched 2 days after I took ownership. The dealer replaced it with no problem.

my experience with getting something little and cosmetic fixed was bad.
on my 09 tw fit sport the trim on the hatch window (bottom of window) was jacked from factory. they "fixed it"
but also replaced the top rubber and f'd that one up and scratched the pain while installing it and scratched my tint.
so be careful what you ask for...
