Interesting that this is out online before the magazine hits the mailbox.

I'm not surprised the Fit's there as it was there last year. My 08 Accord Coupe is also there. Ah hah!...2 for 10!

Car and Driver's 10 Best lists for the past several years has looked very similar. Almost the same cars make it year after year, which says something about those cars.

Oh, and I was surprised that the Fit didn't win MT's Car of The Year. I don't think the GT-R should've won at all. Fit should've won hands down. This just adds to my continuing disappointment and distrust in Motor Trend these days.

 

Yeah, I've never known MT for its taste and discernment. But at least they gave it the honor of "finalist." Course, all it had to beat was the Corolla, Matrix, and Vibe: it must have been like comparing NoDoz to Lunesta, Ambien, and Valium.

And you make a good point, CrystalFive: though Godzilla is a phenomenal sports car, isn't it sort of an anachronism? Isn't the truly 21st century car the one that best blends fun to drive with conscientiousness about fuel economy and the environment? (Of course, I'd be willing to say that a Cooper S does it a bit better than the humble Fit, but that's neither here nor there).

The part that was so exquisitely Motor Trend was that the author felt the need to twice say "You won't mistake it for a Porsche," and "sports car thrust it isn't." Yeah, expected that the second I read 1.5L, buddy.
