Wow! I wish I had a shiny new Honda Fit to show off in the school parking lot. Make sure you post pics up before and after the mods. With and without the girls too, of course. That's where tint may come in handy.
1. Lowering springs
2. 17" rims
3. Tint

I was wondering that too.
To have a brand new Fit at 17 and not be happy with it the way it is just puzzles me.
Driving skills take time and experience. Do that before considering modding a car for the purpose of... as you say: "that i can zoom around in".
There must be better things to spend money on than modding a car at that age. Education is my first thought. Invest in yourself for the future!

Progress rear sway bar. 'Nuff said.
That would be my first suggestion. [wasn't my own first mod, though. Haha.]
Then go with whatever makes the driving experience more enjoyable.
If it's MT, go with a weighted shift knob was well. Maybe some metal shifter bushings.
Tires are a big part of the handling equation, so look for some sticky rubbers. I'd save springs/coilovers for last.
Simple intake would probably be next; save yourself some moolah and go get the parts from Autozone or wherever.
The cabin light is pretty weak IMHO, so I'd suggest finding an LED replacement. autolumination.com and superbrightleds.com are good sites to order from.
And don't do anything that'll void any warranties...yet. Wait for the manufacturer's warranty to expire, then go balls out.
That's all I can think of right now. Oh, don't spend some exorbitant amount on everything. You're only 17, so save for other things like movies (a ticket down here costs $9! >_< Ugh.) or food or video games or whatever.
