When we owned our 06 WRX we didn't get crappy mileage like that and a 06 WRX can spank a GTI silly--!

I did have a chance to drive a used vw the day of trying
all of the cars that I was looking at.
It only took a half of block and I turned right around
not likeing the vw at all leg felt like it had to go around
center counsel and the low end power felt weird.
I drove the Versa, 09 Fit, XD toy,and mazda3hb,
out of all I chose the fit, Mine was 17.5 otd,
I am not sure why your price was so high?
I have the sport no nav AT.
I still feel That I am cheating for what I Paid
and what I got with My Fit....

Who knows what the conditions just were to get that mileage number. It works out to roughly 15 US MPG. It's rated for around 21 MPG I believe (as is the Honda Civic SI). Throw in -30, some spirited driving and a recently reset average mileage measure on the MFG and the consumpion figures shown aren't exactly shocking.

You want shocking? Drive my truck around in -30 even when babying it. You'll be lucky to get half that . . . LOL

p.s. As an aside, our Passat Wagon with the 2.0T gets low to mid 20's in town if you drive like you care about fuel economy. I'd be shocked if you couldn't do the same in a GTI.

If you can find a dealer that has good customer service, you'll love your VW. Good luck with that, though.

I'm a VW guy at heart. I've owned more than a dozen VWs in the past 18 years. Two months in the Fit and I still can't bring myself to sell my '04.5 GLI 1.8T. The VW is a part of who I am...the Fit is just what I drive.

You might want to lower your expectations. My MkIV 1.8T gets 27 or 28 in mixed driving. A MkV 2.0T will likely average more like 24 or 25.

Jetta's and Toureg's have TONS of electrical problems. I think EVERYONE we have sold at our lot has come back with problems.

I usually get around 10.0 L/100km in the city, give or take a bit. That's about 23.5 US MPG or 28.3 imperial MPG.

That 15.3 was the instantaneous reading (not the average) when I pulled into a lot and crawled into the parking space.

actually 28 should be very doable...i consistently average 26-27 mixed in my b7 avant. take away quattro, shed a few hundred lbs, and i wouldn't be surprised if a good tank nets close to 30.

it was a completely different story for the 1.8 in my b6 avant -- no matter how i drove i just couldn't break 25. the 2.0t may sound like crap, but it's a pretty impressive engine.

Yeah.. Good Luck. Hope all goes well and you enjoy it. I'm sure you will. They are fun cars to drive and the luxury options are very nice. I too was a VW fan, but after the last one I had and it's electrical gremlins, and with it being in the shop every weekend, I switched to the land of the rising sun.

A part of my heart still wishes VW's were reliable like they once were.

My '04 Passat GLS was FANTASTIC... until the warranty ran out. Had some coil pack issues and while it was in the shop, my mechanic mentioned it'd be $1000 to change the timing belt at the upcoming 90K mark. I flipped that sucker the moment I found a deal on a Fit.

Hope you have better luck with your VW - though I've heard from some mechanics that a lot of the German cars are engineered to break down at specific intervals.

This was taken the night before. Instantaneous fuel consumption is what's indicated, not average. Probably should have changed the display before taking these pics.

those are nice, completely two differnt kinds of thinking between the two, I've owned two audis in my car buying life and you cant deny the "fun" factor in the way they drive...its all about the love man...when you are ready to mod and you will be, give PureMotorsport a call, and if Mike answers the phone tell him Thai says HI!!!!!

I used to own a '75 vw rabbit many years ago. I always would have problems - burning oil, defective rotor, etc. Everything was wrong with it. I would never buy a vw product. I currently own a '88 Honda Civic with 327,000 miles on it. Runs like a top. Original engine and transmission and it just passed the California smog test, good for another 2 years. Doesn't even burn oil. We are a Honda loving family. Honda motorcycles, Honda lawnmowers, and 2 other Honda cars. Great product. VW's are junk. So much for German engineering.

Used to have a 97 Gti VR6 and 03 Gti 1.8t, never had problems, both are heavily modded. Just tear and wear, now i have the 08 Jetta 2.0t, Revo stage 2 ecu re-flash, it has 23,000kms on it still running good...not a single problem..

do you have any idea how ridiculous your statement seems given:
time elapsed between models = 34 yrs
sample size = 1
funny thing is, most vw bashers apply almost the exact same logic
