I bought a 2009 Honda Fit Sport in Storm Silver Metallic with automatic transmission & navigation. The sticker price was 19,430.00 + $519.00 for the center armrest (cost of armrest plus installation). I paid $18,376.00 (for the car) & $314.00 (for the armrest installed); the only extra fees I paid were for the NJ Motor Vehicle registration, NJ sales tax, and $7.50 for NJ New Car Tire Tax (the tire tax killed me, NJ will nickel and dime you to death with taxes).

Dealer cost for that vehicle is $16,979
Holdback is $342.
Negotiate up from $16,637

You should be able to get a deal for no more than 1% over the dealer cost number.

Is $18,940 OTD for a sport auto (no add-ons,) good, or should I try and shop around/haggle them down some more? (I'm in CA..)

I've been browsing all over but haven't found a consensus on price really, would you guys go for it? I'm thinking I'll tell em $18,500 in the color I want and I'll drive out today...

Sounds high but this is where OTD gets confusing as each state has differing amounts of taxes and add ons so it really depends on what the price of the vehicle is with out TTL etc.....

Alright, so I just went to a local dealer to test drive my first fit sport auto, and after some brief discussion (the dealer telling me all the reasons I should buy from him and quoting me 18,700 + fees, and me saying well here's the quote I've got for $18,900 out the door...) he verbally agreed to 18,500. I'm going to tell the first dealer I got a quote from and hope they'll best it, but the closer dealer also has 9.99 oil changes for the live of the vehicle so I'd save $300 over 100k miles... I might just go for 18,500. What do ya'll think?

Oh yeah and the guy was also trying to tell me that fees were going up after april 1st, and that the prices on the fit weren't going to go down anytime soon. Sounds like the fees could be true, but what about prices? Won't they drop in 6 months or less when the 2010's come out?

*EDIT* I went back to the place that agreed to beat 18,900 and they quoted me over 19 lol.. I laughed and walked out. I'll be taking my business elsewhere, I'll post back when it's done.

I just signed the papers yesterday. I bought an automatic LX 09 with: interior lighting; center armrest with storage; USB connector; spare tire kit, locking wheel nuts $22,200 (Ontario, Canada) He absolutely refused to go lower than 21,000 (all incl.) on the car before accessories. Guess I got a bit hosed on this... I'm still looking into tint options.

The other thing too which I found funny is I drove the car for one week put 1500 miles on it and they called me and said they could not find any one to finance me for 7 years at 5.9% so I said give me my car back and took the fit back. They did not like that so Honda themselves financed me for 6 years at 2.9% to keep the payments down. So worked out even better for me. First time buying a car where the dealer got screwed not the buyer.

Black sport auto $16,800 before fees, $18900 out the door (I got gap protection, I hesitated and think I shouldn't have done it now. Oh well...my new car is Siiick!)
Got raped on the loan because I'm a first time buyer w/out much credit but I'm going to try and find a better one and should have it paid off in a year anyways, so I'll be at $19,800 probably when I pay it off in a year.

'09 black sport AT (no add-ons)

16500 pre fees
55 document prep fee
29 opt dmv elect filing fee
183 lic. and title (calif.)
1407 taxes
18173 otd, cash

we got had for $55 (doc prep), which my wife let pass when i was out of the room entertaining our baby. but it was late, the kid was crying, the paperwork was done and half-signed and the check already handed over by the time i noticed so it slid. from what i've seen on this thread we made out okay. advice for new buyers: we used edmunds.com to get multiple dealers to pitch blind offers, then we called back and forth between the lowest two and made them bid down against each other. it's degrading and feels bad but it works. we also called the one dealership we had previously visited (just wanted to make sure our baby seat and stroller "fit" -- sorry) and asked them to beat; they matched. we had a lot of leverage from not being physically at the dealership, i think, so definitely haggle via phone and email if you can. the process involves a lot of dead time from checking with the boss and authorizing that price i don't think we can do it it's too low, so you might as well be at home watching march madness with a beer if you have to sit around waiting on them. i think paying cash might have saved us some money too b/c any confusion and paperwork is an opening for more fees that sound official and necessary but aren't.

Holy Cow!

Thats a great deal. I don't know how they were able to do that as its BELOW true dealer cost (including holdback) which is $16,637 for that vehicle. Oh, and don't complain about the $55 doc prep fee. Thats nothing either. I got stung for $180.

Excellent deal, are you sure you didn't get the MT for that price!
