Opinions on price
I emailed a local Honda dealership and was given an "Internet Shopper Price" of $16,630 on a 2009 Honda Fit Sport MT. He said this includes the destination charge but not sales tax or licensing fees? Since this would (if I buy) my first new car, I have a few questions:
1. How much does the "licensing fees" usually amount to? I'm trying to get an estimate of how much the final price will be (not including any deposits/trade-in).
2. Thoughts on bargaining, how much room is there to go lower? If you have a fit similar (Sport, MT, 2009) how much did you pay?
3. I've heard that the manual has higher RPM's at hwy speeds, at around 70mph what would the RPM's be? Do you think (as your opinion) that the extra noise is an annoyance (I usually have radio/CD playing somewhat loud though), or any other thoughts?
Thank you.

Wow. That's a fabulous price. Especially if it includes the destination charge.... I got mine for $17,700.
1. Taxes are whatever your sales tax % is in your county; license fees are whatever your tag fees are. Some states/counties don't charge them, some do. But either way, it's no more than a couple hundred $, if that...
2. If you're getting below MSRP, which $16,630 definitely is, I'd be all over that. Dealerships around the country are not budging off MSRP in most cases.
3. Mine's auto, but I'm happy with the highway noise at speed.
...however, if you want to stay at that quoted price, you need to turn down all offers on extended warranty, tire/wheel package, pinstriping, etc., etc.. stuff you probably won't ever need for any Honda purchase anyway. Within reason.

I suppose I have one other question, other than sales tax (6% in PA) and the licensing fees, are there going to be any other stuff tacked on (other than optional accessories and stuff they may try to add)?

In the Continental US - MSRP on the '09 fit sport MT is $16060 with out the Nav and plus $670 the Destination Charge. (invoice is $15493 plus the destination charge) The '09 fit sport MT is $17910 with the Nav plus $670 the Destination Charge. (invoice is $17269 plus the destination charge)
Expect to pay Taxes, Title and License fees and a document fee ( the doc fee can be about anything - I have seen them from $150 - $350) Plus the cost of any add-ons

According to edmunds.com, the "true market value" (TMV) for an '09 Fit Sport MT is $17238, which is about $500 over MSRP. The TMV is presumably the average price that the cars are actually being sold for. So if you can get one for $16,630 ($100 under MSRP), that is a great deal !!! I bought mine last month for MSRP and I thought that was a great deal (and still do).
As far as the engine revs at highway speed, a Sport MT will run just under 3500 rpm at 70 mph. I bought my Fit in Virginia and drove it back home in upstate NY on the interstates and did not find the engine speed to be annoying at all. It just purrs along at that speed. And I averaged just over 40 MPG (hand calculated) to boot. So if you like shifting a MT, you will love the one in the Fit. It shifts like any other Honda MT, which is to say, just great.

they may try to take on a package with wheel locks, mud flaps, etc for a couple hundred extra. i know i bought my honda at Burns in NJ and they tack that $500+ package on automatically right when the car rolls in detailing, thank god i told them ahead of time don't dare add that crap, isnt PA taxes 8% too??? I got my 09 5AT and they did not budge a dollar on the msrp, they jsut gave me a really good deal for my trade in. I believe mine after msrp + destination came out to be around $17,580, then after tax and 4 years of tags & registration I was near 20k

I'm waiting for my 09 Sport MT (non Navi) to come in anyday. I'm paying MSRP ($16,730) for it. Anything under MSRP is a great deal. However, you might as well call the other dealers close by and see if someone can beat that price.
Another problem you might face is that it is really hard to find a Sport MT. There are lots of AT out there but not many MT. I've found it especially hard to find one in Tafetta White.

I'm paying MSRP ($16,730) for my Sport 5MT. The dealer actually had a $1995 market adjustment on the car. Ha, no way was I going for that. You know they have people that come in and pay whatever is on the sticker though. I usually don't settle for MSRP, but the car is a hot seller and the margin betwen invoice and MSRP is not worth fighting over.

Buena Park Honda in Orange County
The only colors they had in stock at the time was white and orange, but they picked up my pearl blue from their Carson dealership.
You can get it for well below MSRP, but they try to get you to pay for wheel locks, extended warranties, etc... Just decline the extra options and stick to your price and they'll cave. Mine was 17,300. Had to threaten to leave and they pretty much chased me down to tell me that we had a deal.
Good luck!

I guess it is about 40 miles away.
I'll try to find some deals nearby, otherwise I'll try your dealership.
thanks again
