First Road trip
I drove my 08 Base Fit on a 425 mile road trip from my home in Alabama to Jacsonville, Florida last week. Except for no cruise control the car did great. I kept it at 75 to 80 miles per hour most of the trip. At 80 miles an hour I was pushing right around 4 thousand RPM's. I got 33 miles to the gallon. I felt a little bad about running at that RPM like I was abusing the car but I now think that it did not hurt it at all. I stopped at a rest area on the return trip after being on the road for about three hours. I felt the hood before getting back in and it was cold. I would love to hear from mechanically inclined people as to whether or not running the fit at that RPM for that amount of miles is detrimental to the engine.

How many miles on your car prior to the trip? It's said that during break in period, you want to NOT keep a constant rpm, like staying at 80 on the highway for any length of time. You want to vary rpms. It's okay to rev high, in fact it's good for break in to rev high, even to redline as long as you rev it up there slowly.
Even after break in, there's nothing wrong with revving high for sustained periods. It's a Honda not a Corvair.
