Honda Fit Sky Roof for the U.S.

Hi Fit Fans,

I noticed that the Jazz has the option for a sky roof -- glass roof that does not open, and goes from the front windshield to midway through the back seats.

Has anyone out there heard whether Honda plans to make that feature available for the Honda Fit here in the United States?

Here's a picture of what people outside the US can drive:

Thanks!

someone will probably say 'oh.. that makes it unsafe.. we can't let you offer that on the USDM models' and we'll just have to keep wishing *or import ourselves*

Or someone will say "it's unsafe for North American car buyers, but offer it to the Asians and Europeans- they'll buy anything!".

Not sure if the reason is about safety since Mercedes Benz offered panoramic moon roof for awhile and Lexus is doing it on their ES also now.

Maybe they just want to keep it at certain price/profit level.
Or on the more noble account maybe their market research found that this is not what America market is looking for in that segment.

yeah plus the mini has that skyroof option too.. so i dunno bout that safety thing...

the UK jazz offers it as an option..
This can possibly be done (re:JDM's sticky thread), some of the part #'s are listed, but this will definately be really expensive.

Probably better to just get an aftermarket sunroof ~2g's.

Don't say that. I'd rather you (or anybody) not to roll your vehicle .
Sorry, could not resist.

I've been considering stopping by a sunroof place to see if they can demo one for me, and size up my 09 sport to see if an install would work.

I'd wanted to by a Mini convertible, but practicality ruled and I started to look at Fits. When I saw the previews of the 09 with a sky roof I was really into it, and bummed to find out it would not come stateside. This aftermarket roof would give me fresh air and an open feeling. My concern would be leakage, wind noise, buffeting, and structural integrity/loss of cross bracing in the roof, etc. If the sunroof shop has a car I can take a ride in that's got one of these giant roofs on it, I might go for it.

glass is heavy and will also hurt the handling of the car.

I think noise in the cabin is less of an issue for me have you heard that little 1.5 churn? its not quiet

also with the open feeling, that windshield is MASSIVE so its pretty good feeling of openness...but that Panaramic would be sick!!!, I did go to a shop in Socal(Huntington Beach) and they showed me one and its LARGE, but really has no sliding door, instead its a sun shade roller stlye. here some pics in an FJ cruiser, notice the center beams where the rollers come in and out..., the guy is on the FJ forums and so far he said no leaks but that was a year ago....

Check these threads ---> https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...5-sunroof.html & https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...-navi-way.html

No leakage reported, and they had it on their previous cars.. Also they add some sort of reinforcement when doing the sunroof install.

Anyone hear about anyone getting the sky roof (non-opening glass sunroof) that was meant for the Japanese/European Jazz, and having it installed on the United States Fit 2009?

I called a sunroof shop I found on the Webasto website's dealer directory.
"I don't know. I'll have someone call you back in a little while."
2 hours later:
Ring ring..."Buddy says to give you this message. He has one 524 Panoramic roof left, it'll be 1250 installed."
What's the leak guarantee? Does it decrease structural integrity? How long does it take to install?
"I don't know much about that. You'll have to talk to Buddy. You can call him later".

I'll call another shop and see if they're more interested in doing the job.

That's cheaper than the prices for the 935, or 700 sunroof options.
I see that will be a problem trying to finding a reputable installer in the NYC area.
Hey TKZ12NO1, if you find any reputable installer, please post cause we're probably in the same general area. Thanks.
I was looking in to the Webasto 700. But that 524 Panoramic sky roof (if it opens) might be a nice alternative..

keith94070, as for the panoramic roof conversion, I dunno but JDM_DOHC_SiR, is doing a lot of JDM mods to his car, maybe he might be doing the panoramic roof also. But from the cost of it, might as well just get a Webasto after-market.
