When I use the defrost, I can hear the AC kick in. This is very annoying cause i only want air blowing through the vent. If I leave it in this setting, how does this affect my mileage and power.

I'm constantly switching from "front and foot" setting to defrost.
The only thing it would really effect is your lights will dim a bit once in a while while they are on.

The fuel efficiency of driving with AC on is nothing compared to when you have your windows rolled down.

Alright, so we covered the fact that using AC won't hurt our fuel economy...but does anyone know approximately how much horsepower is robbed during AC use?

After 5000 miles I have found: avg of 33mpg.

a/c below 60mph -2mpg
a/c above 60mph -3mpg

windows down: front driver down 3 in, back pass. down 1/3,back driver down 2 in. For me most air and least noise.

down ...below 60 mpg +3
down ...above 60 mpg +1

My best milage is 38.2 with windows up vent on cold and fan on two and a/c off and 65 degrees outside.

YOUR OPINIONS MAY VARY...BLACK THUNDER

a/c on is better than windows down.

I prefer to turn A/C on when I want it on. The method here works great!
