Has anyone self installed the OEM sports pedals?

I bought them for College Hills Honda and didn't read the instructions beforehand, apparently securing them involves drilling (easy part) and riveting (a new thing for me).

I managed to get a rivet tool with a quick trip to Home Depot...

So I think I'm pretty set but I've never used rivet tool before. I bought some spare rivets so I could practice with the rivet tool on something else beforehand.

 

I haven't seen them, if it were me I might think about drilling the holes as required and using small bolts and nuts, instead of rivets. Reversible, that way.

 

Rivets will be reversible too - just requires drilling thru them.

The way they made this thing to fit - you can't really do a screw and nut job on it... the reverse side of where they place the support plate on the accelerator pedal (on AT anyways) is in a hollow chamber so you don't actually drill thru the whole pedal to the back of it.

I want the pedal covers (we have an Auto) but I'd really like a set of three, with a dead pedal cover, too. If I dont find such a set, I'll probably eventually just get the Honda set.

But yes, let us know how it goes. Pedal covers can be a real PITA to install.

 

I just did this last week - GE8 MT Honda pedal on GD3 MT. Clutch and Brake Pedal are exact fit. GE8 gas pedal is smaller but it still fits on GD3.

Got it done this evening. Started with what I thought are necessary tools... in the end, its hard to mark the spots for drilling, so I used a nail to score the area on the accelerator pedal. No drilling needed for the brake pedal.



Did not take pictures during the install since it was nigh impossible to work in the tight spot. You want to drill a pilot hole and then a BIG hole for the 3 holes on the driver's side, but make sure you mask your drill bit so it only cuts through the top part (the pedal is hollow). They aren't kidding about using 5 mm on the second drill - it makes it a lot easier and its the metal plate that holds the rivets, so the big hole is no issue. It makes positioning easier - still I had to mess around and bend the bottom plate so the holes aligned correctly.

Using the rivet tool is pretty easy, push rivet in (I suggest putting in all 3 rivets on the driver's side, just leave them standing) and use the tool and squeeze. It might take 2-3 squeezes to fully pull the pin out and fasten the rivet but it makes for a really solid hold once done. Results are below...
