The official Honda Navi Hackers Challenge Thread!
#41
Do we have the right to do ANYTHING we want to ANYTHING we own as long as it doesn't harm anyone or anything? Is buying a pc and blowing it apart with a shotgun illegal? We are CERTAINLY modifying hardware as well as software! hehhe... U get the point.
All we are asking for is to utilize the tools that we obvoiusly already paid for. And if it takes modifying the software, soldering something, or changing a bolt, if you OWN it, you should have the right to do what you want to it. Accurate or not. How can that be illegal?
Anyway's if you have the capability and are up to the challenge, I'd say go for it. You have nothing to fear!
And yes it uses a nav DVD to load the software to drive it. Go for it! JMHO

hope that answers the question.
p.s. i am all for mods, as long as it's safe.

Ok I get it somewhat.. But it seems to me that most of what you are saying revolves around either financial gain or proprietary theft. That is NOT the case here.
We just want to use what we already have! and it seems silly to not be able to use it for no other reason than to "Save Face" so to speak.
I'll be the 1st to admit I'm no software license expert. I mean who reads that stuff anyways...
And I don't think that a few people wanting to tweak some software to get full functionality from a product they already own is high priority on the software police hit list!
I mean if it was... the 'other' hack sites would be shut down by now and the site owners in jail! I think we can safely BEAT this parking ticket!
It's not like we want to watch DVD's doing 80 on the freeway... I mean we just want our lousy trip computers to work!
BTW isn't 6.72 the current DVD? If it is, we now have the splash screen hack. check this out... Navigation Splash-Screen Hack Tutorial - 6.72

don't get me wrong. i am all for mods. however they can only be done "unofficially". in other words, whoever who does it cannot legally sell the modified product in open market. you cannot ask the original manufacturer/software maker to support you/help you making the mods... that sort of thing.
underneath the radar you can do whatever you want. i doubt anyone will sue anyone. The most they will do is to void hte warranty. so this is not the same as stealing something. it's like people who make the "hackentosh" - loading Mac OS X on home made intel computers. legally you cannot do that commercially or Apple will sue you to death for violation of various rights. However there are plenty of people who do it to cut down costs and there are even websites that support such projects (by support, I mean voluntarily provide info, not for profit). Apple doesn't like but won't bother to sue individual users.

I bet I can all but guarantee..there is NOTHING in the license agreement about enabeling the trip computer..
I mean GEES! They didn't even want you to know it was there!
So... if you feel safe doing so... we'd love to see you try....

Navi same on Fit Civic Cr/v
I was at the Honda dealer checking on ainor problem with the navi. He said that he could see no differnece between the Fi and Civic and CR/v.It thus seems that the Fit could be hacked as someone seems to have hacked the Civic.

You need to edit the files/software CD to enable the trip computer.
#50
Dude, that's the whole point of this thread. Did you just figure this out? we're looking for someone who knows how to do this. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.
#53
Did I really point out the obvious? Thanks for pointing that out. And if editing/modding the files was so "obvious" why don't you start on enabling the trip computer?
My Fit hasn't arrived yet and I will figure it out how to enable trip computer. Should be arriving this month or in January and I will have time to work on it since I will be on winter break.

As soon as you figure it out how to enable it, post the method.

I just finished the Navi Splash Screen hack as outlined on the “ Navigation Splash-Screen Hack Tutorial – 6.72 “. It took about 1 hour total including Photoshop time. Please note, if you try this, you must FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. The result is very cool!

I had to laugh at your post, as I feel the same way. Whether it's a car, computer, gps or whatever, each year these things get better, faster, cheaper. I, like you, am not willing to wait a year (or longer) just to get a few more bells and whistles. Would I love to have VSA and audio controls in a non-navi Sport, sure, but not enough to wait. And, as with everything in life, there's no guarantees that these (or other) features will even show up. Enjoy your new RO Fit. BTW, this loan thing's becoming a bit scary for everyone. Good Luck!
Yes, it was good for health, but I'm also disabled and it really hurts sometimes, so much, that I have to stop. Stop wherever I am.
I kept hoping that THE PERFECT CAR would appear. You know, the ones that have 10 year warranties with perfect reliability and 100 MPG hybrid engines that make pure oxygen, pure water, and a delicate floral scent come out the tailpipe, and all this for a delightful $5,000.00.
It just wasn't happening. I can read about all the concept cars and ideas I want, but if they aren't available or aren't affordable, they don't get me to the store.
I spent way too much time reading about current cars. I looked at the Toyota Yaris. I was interested in both the Scion xA and xB. Scion must have known that, and promptly discontinued the xA and redesigned the xB into a style I do not like. Looked at the Smart car. I hoped for Honda to make their new hybrid in a small size, and small price. Looks like the Insight price will be good, but not great, and the size, well, face it, it's a Prius duplicate. Too big.
I looked at pollution and MPG over at Fueleconomy.gov for all kinds of cars. I looked at their Best and Worst cars. I read their tips on getting better mileage.
I read on Edmunds, both the editor reviews and consumer reviews. I used the Edmunds blog that shows the Consumer Reports reviews/ratings of cars:

My brother finally says "Are you going to get a car or not, go buy the FIT!" And so I did.

Splash Screen
The “Splash Screen Hack” is ONLY for the splash screen. I'll try the “OK” screen hack when someone, other than myself, figures out how to do it. As for the splash screen, rather than designing one from scratch I used a Sony PSP wallpaper as the PSP's wallpaper is about the same size as the Navi graphic (480x234 pix for the navi and 480x272 pix for the PSP). There are thousands of PSP wallpapers on the net so you have lots to choose from. I've added a photo of the Navi unit with the new splash screen.
