When I drive my Fit it takes me back here

LOL. Gas is $4.50 here on a good day. I guess that's why norcal dealers have no trouble selling Fits here well above MSRP.

Interesting to see other folks comparing the Fit to the VW A1 platform. The first time I drove the GD Fit it immediately reminded me of an '84 GTI. The same solid suspension transition on corners; the same sense that I could lift the rear inside tire without the front outside breaking loose.
The GE doesn't have quite the same sense of 'go-cartiness' but I think that with a set of coilovers and a decent set of tires (on light 15's) it'll get close. Chassis flex is almost non-existent; suspension transition is predictable. I think it'll be fun. Slow, but fun.
I've been a VW driver for years...two '84 GTIs, an '82 Scirocco, an '84 Scirocco, a '94 Golf, an '02 GTI, even a couple water coolers and a '92 Corrado. I also still have an '04 Jetta GLI. But VW is flat out missing the boat with it's current line-up. They need to bring the Polo (or Lupo!) to the US...

I don't have a FIT yet, but the gearing appears to be almost identical to my 1994 BMW 318i. My 318i has 172,000 miles, got 35 mpg on the last highway road trip (on Premium fuel...). Another car that had that type of gearing was the old BMW 1602 4-speed, those cars ran forever until the rust worm got them. 3000 RPM on the highway doesn't necessarily mean poor gas mileage, may not be optimum.
